I spent most of the day working alone pulling the engine. I got the driveshaft out and the chambered exhaust out in pieces so I can hopefully re-sell. I left the radiator and shifter in place. I wasn't able to get the tranny and engine together though. Even with a leveler, it just wasn't going to happen. No big deal though, just a minor set back and I wasn't going to fight it. I'll get the tranny out tomorrow and start cleaning the engine bay.
More good news. I didn't break any bolts or bust anything up.
Some of these photo's are just a reference for me.

It turns out that the bellhousing is a #621 for an 11 in clutch.

Looking good len, making nice progress!!!Hows the health doing.

Love to see those photos, Len. Good progress.

P.S. Thanks for the tip on the special ARP head bolts for the lower row. They reduced my header-flange grinding requirements to almost nil. :beer

Hey Len, what part of Western Pa? I'm in Greensburg. Nice looking project you got there.

Len:
I'm a bit confused (but that's not unusual) ... for some reason I thought BBC had been swapped in a long time back? ... OR is that simply what I get for thinking?:L In one of the pics it looks like the trans door had a crack/repair at bottom rear corner of door?

Is there an issue with the #621 bellhousing?

No the 454 isn't in yet Jack. Been working on this about 2.5 years, maybe that's why you thought I should have that engine in by now.:L

I don't know what that gray stuff is. I did have the inspection cover off about 2 years ago to repair the leak. I thought I used Permatex(the blue stuff) as a gasket. Don't know why it's now gray and it didn't look that thick or ooze out the side like that. :confused At least I fixed the leak. In fact, that's the only clean area of the tranny.

The 621 bellhosuings seem to be desireable of the Muncie housings and they aren't getting any cheaper.

Nice pictures, good for reference.

Could you have pulled the engine with the bell housing and left the tanny? Maybe you elected to pull the engine without the bell housing so it would clear the radiator??

Yeah, I guess I could have done it that way. My original plan was to pull the engine & tranny together, however the leveler wasn't cooperating. When I do the 454 install, I may remove the radiator and try to install the engine & tranny together.

Hello 70 Stingray, This last winter I removed and reinstalled my '70 454 wth the bell-housing attached. I did have to remove the radiator and rad-core-support but not the A/C condensor. I simply moved it forward. I hade no problem reinstalling the big-block. once in the enging bay, that last 4-6 inches were the toughest. Good luck. I was not able to view the photos.
