2001 coupe: what causes loud (to me) engine knock when the engine is cold (about 10 minutes) at start up and purrs like a kitten when the engine is warm. whats the fix for this? I have an extended warranty.....

It could be piston slap. Carbon build up on top of the pistons can aggravate it. Try running a couple of bottles of 20oz. Techron Concentrate through two full tanks of gas.

If it is the normal valvetrain startup noise, switching to a higher flowing oil filter (like K&N or Baldwin) will quiet it down.

it lasts for a good 10 minutes until the engine is warm, only 18k miles total. Is piston slap fixable? Thankx. for the replys.

I suggest that you go to the "search" function on the tool bar above and search "Piston Slap". You will find many threads to read. I found quite a few.
