In a few weeks, I am pulling my engine out of my 76 vette, actually, ripping the engine and trans out. We all know how hot it gets in the cabin of our vettes... Is there anything I can do to the firewall, insulation tape, or something, that will make a big difference? I do have the heater core bi-passed already...

I had thought about using insulation tape on the firewall, but I didn't like the possibility of the tape peeling up at the edges with age. I ended up painting the firewall, floorboards and tunnel with Ace industrial aluminum paint.

The paint is rated at 600 degrees. I applied it with a sponge so as not to get any brush strokes.

I'm not sure if it will make a big difference, the car is still on the jack stands, but it sure looks better.

cabin heat

I found that when I used the exhaust wrap on my headers that it made a noticable difference inside my car from the engine heat. Also if you ever plan on installing a new carpet, don't waste your $ on the kits, they don't cover much area at all, you can get similar stuff from places like Home Depot ;)

I've seen it in rolls at Home Depot...It's called Reflextics?... something or other...

I got a roll from J C Whitney $19.00
plenty and then some

i used the same LOWE'S product for my car. my wife did notice a difference in the heat level from the headers.
plus ,if i can ever get the custom pipe bent for my sidepipes i am going to use the heat wrap for the pipes since they will make a big U right under the footwells.

Robin,

I've read that the side pipes really lower the heat as the collection point is outside the car. However, I've also read that it is almost unbearable to have the windows down in stop and go traffic.

Tradeoffs.

How big of a roll did you buy from Loews, and how much did it run?

Cool, thanks. I will definently try it out. Did it make a really big difference? And in all actuallity, how hard was it to do?

faster,,, when you decide to insulate the cabin, think about any other repairs while your there. you'll have all the carpet and seats out. look for cracks or damage to the floors . also if you want to upgrade the sound system, it's a good time to run any wires.
