Hello all,

was just wondering, what is the average cost for an engine reconditioning? I know that prices will vary quite a bit, im living in Alexandria VA/DC area.

Any help is appreciated :)

350 small block auto would be the engine.

I found it less expensive to purchase a new (not rebuilt) GM Goodwrench 350 crate motor than rebuild my original engine. I plan to rebuild the original engine but it is currently in storage.

GM Performance Parts has lots of options. How fast do you want to spend?

The Goodwrench motor is about 250HP and comes with a 3 year 36K mile warranty, cost is around $1400. This is a pretty low cost option. One of the chevy magazines did a series of hop-up article on this motor and built a low dollar 400HP engine.

This is a new long block, remove your existing intake manifold, distributor, etc from the old engine and put it on the new motor.

Lots of crate motor builders besides GM to evaluate also.

i just came across this post and iterested me,,, do u know if they will build a new one like the original??? u see, i have my 1969 vette sitting in my garage for the past 4 years untouched, dont ask is a long story,,, anyways,, i have all the parts for it and they all original except the engine,, it is suppost to be a 427/435hp as per the vin # but it doesnt have it,,,, it has a small block on it,,

i was just wondering if i could contact GM and maybe they will make the original,, i know is a long shot but who knows,,, and if they do maybe it will cost an arm and a leg... then again who knows,,, your post is interesting about the new engines in GM performace parts,, do they have a site???

I doubt it, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask. Many builders on mainland can assemble one ... big bucks. Hard to find intake, carb, heads, .etc.

Will these new G.M. engines work with with the crossfire injection systems.

Don’t see why P/N 10067353 would not. Basically, Goodwrench P/N 10067353
is a 4 bolt main L48 w/ about 250 hp. You can get it through any GM dealer. $1400 or less ... Quite a bargain IMHO.

FYI ... Goodwrench motors have a very nice warranty ... for all practical purposes GMPP motors do not.

If you're looking to buy a Vette, the engine is the least of your worries. They are relatively cheap and very plentiful.

Believe it or not, interior and paint both cost more to repair/restore!

GM won't build a 427 engine for you but they have many crate engine's that will bolt right in.

If you want an old 427 check out salvage yards. I doubt you will find a 435HP version but the big blocks were used in many cars and especially trucks.

GM won't make a 427, you're going to have to search, these are rare motors but not unattainable, Expect to pay big if it's running, or rebuild.

these 427 are a bi**h to find, Salvave Yards?? are there any sites?? tnx in advance. u see,, i would love to get my hands on a 427,, that will make my vette more original like since is the only thing that it has that is not original =(

I'd go visit a shop that really impressed me, from f-a-r away. Talk to your (near)neighbor, Jim at:

http://www.jimsperformance.com/

He really knows his stuff and is readily available before, during and after, with no bull.

As for the crossfire, be careful in your selection. The system works well as a low RPM torquey engine, but dies above about 4500 rpm.

My issue, when choosing an crate engine was that GM changed what was available about the time I made my choice. Nothing was smog legal, either, so I opted for an engine built by sdome local pros.
