Engine running rough

Well, early this morning I started up the vette and was going to do some work on it, and I got sidetracked and left it idle high for 20 minutes. The first not so good thing, then someone called and I realized the car was still running so I turned it off, and right after it ran a little after I turned it off. Later I came back and started it, and now it runs rough, almost like it's missing, and through the exhaust it sounds like a patting/pulsing sound. What's is going on exactly, and will it hurt it to run it, I need advice! Thanks

Could have loaded it up and fouled a plug or two. Take it out and run it through the gears a few times and it might clear up. Or pull the plugs and take look at them and clean or replace.

I took it out for a run yesterday afternoon, and it was still missing. I'll pull the plugs and take a look at them, I hope that's what's causing it, thanks!

Does it miss in a sporatic way or does it miss constantly without fail? Will it run for more than a minute with no miss? Is it worse at idle or does it matter?

It seems to be missing all of the time now. It misses when it idles and runs too. It doesn't seem to matter either way, it just started one time I started it up, after the long idle, and the engine ran after I shut it off.

Try starting the thing at night (Pitch Dark). Pick the hood up and stare down where the plug wires are routed. Stare in there for a couple of minutes to get used to it. You may see spark arching from the plug wires causing the miss. Maybe the high idle relocated one of the wires against a header pipe and burned it.....
