engine stands

How much do engine stands cost, and is there anything in particular I should be looking for in a stand? I've seen stands for anywhere from $65 to $1000!

(Possibly buying a '72 with an extra engine -- gonna need a stand for it!)

jmp- I have 2 of them. The better one I found on trash day driving to my parents house, the woman up the street threw all of her husbands belongings away, even got a free rebuilt 4 banger with it. It probably cost about 70 bucks and is very nice. My second one I bought cheap from AutoZone for about 50 bucks, it's worth about 30 and has junk wheels. Actually both of them have no problems holding motors. No need to really go broke on an engine stand that's going to get greasy, painted, scratched, etc....

jmp,

If you plan on storing it on a stand I would suggest propping the front of the motor up with a 4x4 cut to lenght. That's a lot of weight to be hanging off a few bolt's for any lenght of time.

I also turn mine over monthly to keep oil on all the internal parts.

Just a thought,

Rick
