Hi everyone,

I was just fiddling with my 84 and this question came up. Do I need to advance the timing on an 84 for altitude or does the computer handle altitude changes. Since I'm at 5000 ft normally I would expect to see about 10 degrees difference from normal timing setting.

If all of your sensors are working correctly the computer should handle it all and you don't have to go through adjusting timing, carburetion, etc. when changing altitudes, at least here in North America.

Ken's right your static timing should be set 6 degrees BTDC and if everything is working properly no timing advance is needed. I run a CF at 5,100 ft. with no problems set at 6 degrees BTDC. When I changed the prom chip to a Hyperwreck thermomaster the instructions stated that if the motor starts knocking at 6 degrees, retard the timing 1 degree at a time until it stops. No knocking it's set at 6 degrees BTDC. 84 CF 91 ZR-1
