On 8-20-05 at Quincy Mo., My son and I entered and drove 4 low speed events. 80 miles per hr max speed. It was a Kart track and some hairpin turns. Ate some tread off our tires, LOL. We did good for our first time. Weve never even been to this type of race before. !st time.
He ran it in 42, and I ran it in 43. One guy trashed his C5. Slid off into grass, then through bobwire fence, hit the post, and stopped in the cornfield. He didnt say much after that. I think he was sick. I would have been to. The track was still wet from the rain the night before which may have contributed to it. But I have to say it was a great time. We have the race bug now. Think Ill start putting some money aside to buy a used vette to use just for racing. I feel I need to hold myself back somewhat with my car since its new. I dont like to hold back. 43 to me is a wimpy time. I can do alot better than that. Want to compete with the guys, not only the girls. Im dont care for the seperation to tell you the truth. Give me a car I dont mind sliding off the track, and Ill kick some butt. So would my son. Hes a better driver than I am. I was pretty proud of him. Hes only 18. He's only been driving by himself/full license, on the street for a year. So hes got talent, and keeps good control of his vehicle on the track. There was about 15 to 20 vettes racing, and one mustang, which didnt do well. My son was in his rice burner, a 350z. Thats how I know he is a good driver. He held his own against a couple vettes.

our local Corvette club holds an autocross the friday and sat of labor day weekend in Defiance Ohio, it is a lot of fun.

:L they do in Defiance also different classes it is a NCCC sanctioned event and points are awarded.

The race sounds way too cool. I live in Germany and they have some of the same type of races over here at Hockenheim and the Ring, you can get some fast speeds during their open days. And yes, have seen a lot of accidents where folks really damaged their cars, but as long as it is not you.

And congratulations to your son. Super... When I was married my step son loved the autobahns. Where else can you legally go over 100 MPH?

Some of the women I talked to that raced were fine with the seperation. But Im not one to not be direct and speak my opinions, sooo, my feelings are, "So if I dont have a dick, I dont have the capability to drive as well and fast as the guys?" NOTE: My dick and balls are on order and should be in in a couple of days. Ill strap them to the back of my vette at my next event. Tell them all to suck this!
Women can be feminine, sexy, "and" drive as well as a guy . No large muscles needed guys. Only skill, practice, and a good set up on your vehicle. No one will tell me I cant, nor will they be allowed to limit what I can achieve. This is why Im putting money aside to buy an older vette just for racing, and set up for it as well/slicks etc. I spent 65,000. on my vette. Im not going to tear it up. Vettes are made for competition, yes, but no dought, it is hard on them going to alot of autocrosses in one year. I could feel it when I drove. The replacement parts for an older model arent as expensive as the brand new models. Plus you can buy used parts for them that you cant for the 05's. Like I said, give me a vette I have no fear of trashing, and Ill kick ass out on the track right with the guys. So can alot of other women. And look dam good while there doing it. Might even wear heels and a skirt. Hard to say.:D
Teresa

Ps: While Im on a role here, Id also like to say, and as a warning to the guys not to get a butt chewing, "Dont ever ask a women driving a vette if its her husbands car!" Because you may accidentally be asking me.

HEAR HEAR!! ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL
You said it!
Having separate classes for men and women is just absolutely condescending to women. I can see separate classes for novices and experts, sure. Or separate classes if it was something in which being male offered a distinct advantage. Like weightlifting or something. But DRIVING? GIMME a BREAK!

You tell 'em sister. :D

Interesting topic.
Put the women in with the men in Golf, Tennis, Boxing, track and field, Baseball, Football, Hockey, and everything else.

But then if we do that, very few ladies will participate. Same goes for autocrossing. The purpose of novice classes and ladies classes is to get more to participate. The ladies have the option to stay in that class or race with the men.
Funny that no one thinks anything of a woman entering into the men's class but if a guy were to go into the the ladies class....I don't think that would be allowed. Kinda like Tiger Woods competing on the ladies tour.

Couple of weeks ago I was at a 2 day event and a woman was in our run group for the 2 days. The guys went about their business, had a few laughs, and generally enjoyed the event. This female was a royal PITA. Complained about everything, whined about one of the course workers, was way too intense, and (here is the best part) got her butt kicked!

Cape Cod Bob,
You know women and men can argure agout this all day and not get anywhere. Because you believe the way you do and not much will change that. This wiil be long but something Id like to express here.
I am a part owner of a large company and vice president etc. I am in what "society" calls a mans world. The challenges I have to overcome from this(opinions like yours), and do, are harder than anything most men will ever have to deal with. That makes me "stronger" to fight through it, and not let it stop me. I am the mens leader at work, and when they faulter and feel weak I have to share strenght with them to keep them going or to complete a very hard task. Ive seen women in a mans world and men. Both sides. Ive seen men cry in my office. Nothing wrong with that. Ive seen women cry in my office. Ive seen men come to work after being physically beat by there wife or girlfriend, many men actually throughout the years, it happens more than you think. Ive seen this happen to women as well. Ive been a police officer and have known the men very well that I worked next to. There feelings, views, etc. I watch, I listen and I learn. I understand the physicall differences between a man and a women, and I understand what can be equal between a man and a women. Marksmanship is another area women can be just as skilled as a man. Out of 15 men in my police academy class, two other men, fresh out of military, and I, are certified sharpshooters. I had only touched and shot a weapon only three months before entering the academy. Didnt practice as much as I should have, so I did have a great talent in that area. Mostly a male dominated arena. I only lacked in muscle strenght, but not skill. This is a physicall difference. "MY" physicall difference. The cops all knew though that it was harder to take down a female where we worked than a man, usually took two to three men to do it. (again, ruff area)So that isnt allways the case either. I had a male police officer become afraid of a situation I was involved in, after I had requested backup. I watched him come through the alley and sneak back away. He was a small guy. I never forgot that. I had to handle the situation with no back-up. I did. I had a case where I was ready to shoot a female reaching into her pants that was reported to have a knife. My seargent, a male, stood outside the home and listened to me order her to get on the ground or I will shoot. He didnt want to get involved in a shooting he said. Said I had good lungs. I took care of the situation. I have two children that I have raised from birth with no physicall help, nor any financial help at all. Man was no where to be found. I did it myself. I worked my way up from poor to now being above middle class. Own a very nice home, etc. I worked hard for every penny Ive earned. I have NEVER been married nor do I ever plan to be. A man did not support me, or pay for my assets nor anything else. I have done better than alot of men that have worked there whole lives, and still havent achieved what I have. That bothers alot of men. Ive seen it in there faces and there comments. There threatened, that somehow a women can do better than them. Your opinions and your type I have dealt with my whole life in "every" shape and form. But when the going got tough, I still was there and standing. And will continue to. The men were no where to be found. In my life at least. This isnt all men, all women, nor all situations. Just myn. People like you are the ones that make me stronger than you could ever be. Thank you for that. Its a good quality to have. So I will not change your views, but looking at my life your views do not match up to the reality. So I wonder if your just shooting off at the mouth or you really believe that your views are correct and not just based on ignorance of people and life in general and what all humans are capable of achieving, wether male or female. Fear is what you have of women. Fear youll loose the control you have over them. Fear of loosing being "in Charge" They use to years ago not want women to read books. They might actually be able to learn. Marriage papers were ownership papers. All about controling someone else that you "percieve" as weaker. Just the same as the schoolboy bully. Make themselves feel more in control of themselves, when they can control someone else. I believe a man compliments a women, a women compliments a man, some in the same ways, some in different ways. But lets take the control issue out of this and the fear that a women can have control over herself without the help of a man. Ive done it. You can join any womens event you like. I wouldnt think a thing about it. But this is my opinion. *****ing? Ive heard men ***** about how there new work shirt chafes there nipples, and how working more than 40 hours a week is just to much for them to handle, when them and there familys are in bad shape financially, etc, etc, etc. *****ing? Ive heard men ***** all the time. You need to come visit my world for a while. Reality will hit. My vette? I make the payments, and its rude when a man comes up to me and automatically assumes I couldnt buy one on my own, so must be my husbands. I had a man at a show ask me if the car was myn. I said yes. The other guy said, its probably her husbands car. I chewed about two inches off his ass. I was standing next to a guy in the gas station, and another guy comes in and says, hey man, nice vette to the guy. Are the facts straight on these views? obviously not. So mabey you should, and them, rethink your views. Not "allways" matching up to the reality of it, now is it. I am not saying that I can and will drive BETTER than ANY man out there. But I know I can learn, and improve my skills to the point that I can compete with them. Please tell me a reason why I couldnt. There is no reason. Unless I fall for the belief that I cant. Which I wont. All in the mind, .....all in the mind. Bob read a book on racing and what it takes to be good, you might be "able" to learn something.;)
So Cape Cod Bob, you can "suck this to" :D And I bettcha the one I ordered is bigger than yours.

Chief,
I used to be stationed at Spangdahlem AB. There is a drag racing series at Bitburg AB on the first weekend of each month. Here is the link...

I raced once about 2 years ago. They have a first class operation with a lighted and timed quarter mile. You also get time slips for every run you do.

You mentioned Hockenheimring. Don't forget about Nurburgring! It is about 100 miles or so northwest of you, about 80 km from Spangdahlem. They have public laps.

Enjoy!

So, they'll let the ladies run in either the ladies class or the men's class? What kind of double standard is that? The rules just keep getting more and more :W.

Either you're a novice and/or slow and should run in the novice class, or you should run with the guys (and I use that term generically) who are going to run hard. Period.

As for the golf, tennis, football, hockey remark. Obviously those are sports that would give a distinct advantage to sheer muscle mass. Not exactly a valid comparison to motor racing.

Well anyway, back to the track experience. How was it running on a tight (I assume) kart track in a big vette?

Mr. S and I used to be heavily involved in the motorcycle racing scene. We saw parents and their kids racing and working together in the pits.
Getting your kids involved in something like that- something to "drive" them, motivate them, focus them, keep them busy-- always seemed like a great thing to do. Builds a lot of maturity and responsibility.

gmjunkie,
Yes it was TNT track. Hopefully you didnt do any damage to your Kart. Sounds like a great time though, lol. Running a vette on the same track was great also. There were only a couple that lost it. Some recovered quickly, some didnt. Some had really good times. One car had alot of hp for that track, I think they said 450. 50 more than I had.
I assume you are talking about Kart racing. Ive never been to one but I may in the future. Sounds like a great time. My son would get a kick out of that also.

That was over 35 years ago, I was Just a Pup!!;LOL ;LOL ;LOL junk!!

If anyone is interested in seeing several female Nascar Drivers;
go to; http://www.sportsfem.com/shawnarobinson.html
also; http:www.motorfem.com

See Shawna Robinson racing experience and particularly read the bottom entry. One thing I just learned by going to this site is it doesnt matter if a women overly proves herself racing against men. Even Shawna and janet Guthrie and other women are still dealing with the Billy Bobs and Ya-hoo's.
I was amazed/shocked by that, why I was, I dont know, shouldnt be.
So theres no point in trying to prove to some men you can drive right along with them, even when you can. Just do it anyway, and be proud of yourself, strive to be the very best you can be, and keep pushing your limits girls. Im proud of every one of you.
I see that some men will allways put higher expectations on a women driver than they do a male driver. Usually expectations to have to beat every male out there, or your a joke. Expectations most men cant even keep up with. So the men that have the barbaric mindset need to move to the middle east. It should no longer apply here in the USA.

also see http://www.janetguthrie.com/cspage.htm

also see for her sight--Quotes from peers. Other race car drivers whom are male. Even she still had to deal with the stupidity. Nothing more to say about the male verses female subject after reading that. The emphasis is still on her being female though if youll notice. Not just on her driving.

I have certainly had my rear end handed to me by female drivers, both at the autocross and the drag strip. I certainly see no reason to separate the drivers by sex; only by experience, car setup, etc.
