My buddies 88 coupe has a problem when he turns on the headlights both doors
open erratic, sometimes halfway, some times 3/4. What can be the problem?

Thanks,
Tom

most likely the three little plastic bushings in each drive...new bushings from sears hardware for a quarter each (slight cutting to size reqd) or $10+shipping online....if both lites hesitate in unison, look for corroded elec connectors, start at relay--second- may be the relay itself (firebirds used the same relay if j-y supply is an option)

My 88 had no relay, I found that out by looking for it when my headlights took a crap, it turned out to be the bushings, I repaired it , wasn't a difficult job. Instead of a relay, there's a module in the left front corner...................

you're right...fwiw,the module consists of an electronic circuit board that senses when ''ripple'' stops in the power feed to the headlite motors and opens a relay inside that ''lil black box''...kinda weird cause there is a logic circuit for each headlite but only one relay....note that it is not a current limiting device and can be smoked if not fuse protected.

Thanks Guys, because my 86 has the relays - I will check out the module

88-up module can be used in place of earlier relays... early 3-wire motors can be retained with simple external wiring mod to match module 2-wire output.
