7/11 Update

Folks,

I continue to make incremental changes to our website striving for a cleaner and crisper look while adding modern web tools and functions. I am also working to improve the web presence of the COG site (behind the scenes) to make it more viral and popular during web search results.

In the few hours of personal time in late in the evenings this week I have made the following changes:

1. I have added an RSS Feed from the COG website which much like a news service, after you subscribe, allows you to receive site news updates on your browser or mail program automatically as the site gets updated. For those of you not familiar with RSS functionality, please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rss

2. I have reduced the number of navigation buttons to simplify web navigation as well as to reducing the probability of navigation buttons wrapping around the screen to a second line. Hopefully it looks better now.

3. I have added links to a COG YouTube channel as well as the Callaway C1 Turbo Forum :w My YouTube channel is dedicated to COG videos and already has 16 videos, more to come. A link to the Links page is right on the Home Page (at the bottom).

4. Increased Web Visibility. This work is behind the scenes internal code which helps search engine crawlers map out the site, identify the content, and thus increase search relevance.

Additionally, I encourage each of you to join:
Digg and vote for your favorite COG web pages, video, and news which helps bring up the search engine rankings of the site.
and
del.icio.us a social bookmarking website -- the primary use of del.icio.us is to store your bookmarks online, which allows you to access the same bookmarks from any computer and add bookmarks from anywhere, too.

You see links to both of these social bookmarking sites as well at the bottom on every thread on this forum.

By joining and bookmarking your favorite sites such as this Forum and the COG (or any webpage or video you watch), you in a sense vote for these sites which increases their search engine popularity and helps the sites move up in ranking during web searches for things like "supercharged corvette".

I hope you enjoy these changes and please let me know if you see something that has broken.

Enjoy your weekend and please visit the site at http://www.callawayownersgroup.com

RSS is a pretty cool that I use a lot,

But I recommend for the less computer experienced people to keep the NEWS page and update announcements on the CAC for a while.

I agree, I tried doing the RSS, but I don't use any of the things that it said it would work with, so I didn't go through with it. Not sure how it works exactly... I prefer board or email updates.

Brangeta,

I plan to support both going forward to cover all bases. But, don't you work with web stuff?? If so then you should know how RSS works. But just in case here is a basic pointer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rss

Some people use my.yahoo.com or news.google.com to keep up with the latest news, which you can customize to your interests. RSS allows you to subscribe to COG news so that when a change is made to the COG news page, you see a headline your google or yahoo news page in addition to the other news you read (World/National/Local/Elections/Finance, etc).

Additionally, some e-mail clients like iMail, if you click on the subscribe icon, can get an e-mail when ever there is a new news item posted to the COG RSS Feed.

And if you use none of those, you can click on the Feedburner or the lower COG news link and it will give you a browser page with the current COG news.

The point of RSS is to notify you instantly when a change occurs (PUSH method) instead of having to go the website News page everyday to see if anything has changed (PULL method).

When I post something on the forum telling you to go look at it, I am pulling you to the site. If you subscribe to the COG RSS and get an automatic e-mail or news headline telling you that something is new at the COG site, I am pushing the information out to you.

All those icons get the news from the same place, the COG's RSS feed. They just go about it in different ways. I put the most popular ones on there for most flexibility. There are many more.

Hopefully that clarifies what RSS is and now you know what the icon means on so many websites. I am sure you have seen that icon before.

It is a great question and I think it helps many members learn new ways to use the web.

Unfortunately I normally don't do much web. My only current website is http://brangeta.googlepages.com and I use the site builder to make it.

I just design for print, and design items that end up on websites, but I don't do the programming or functionality. I don't actually put the content on the sites.

I'm still low tech in many ways... web programming is too left brain for me. ;help

:chuckle funny guy,

basic html and java scripting are just using the copy/paste function a lot.
when you see something you like you copy and change the colors or whatever. you should be able to do that.

I am now getting deeper into the php and flash programming and looking to websites in a more functional way.

to me it looks easy but I cannot change a set of tires on a car in photoshop.

for you vice versa.you set photoshop in the blink of an eye.

all we need is more time , I need time to build my Callaway documentation library online,
Luigi needs time to get the spotters guide online,

There are only 24 hours in a day, and the boss, wife and kids demand their part of that time, leaves me with only about few moments to work on the library.
