Corvette Action Center to Have First C6 Exclusive on January 1, 2005

We are proud to announce that on January 1, 2004, the Corvette Action Center will be one of the few Corvette sites on the web to have an exclusive, first impression article on the 2005 C6 Corvette.

Automotive writer, Hib Halverson, will give his first impressions of the C6 Corvette which he recently viewed at a press conference. We will also post some images of the C6 along with Halverson's story.

GM has embargoed on this information until 12:01am EST on January 1, 2004. Check back here after that time for one of the first, comprehensive reports on C6!

Well...ok...maybe it's not going to be truly "exclusive".

I got to work this morning and learned that "ATI AutoWorld" magazine, a tabloid which is sold at supermarkets next to the Enquirer and the Globe, already broke the embargo and has published a piece on C6...
:(
...but our story here on CAC will be one of the first articles on C6.

Rob and I have decided we're going to stick to the embargo and post the article at 12:01 on the first. Besides, it's not done yet, anyway.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

I like the looks of it better than a C5, even though I'd never be able to afford one:L . I'l just keep my "current" C3s.

Thanks Rob, Thanks Hib,

I'll be waiting for the C6 Article (and the pics too)

The more I see & hear, the more I think this will be the best vette ever made (some kind of C1,C2,C3,C4 & C5 evolution with some of each)

Hib, I am going to be in Brazil, I hope they have a quick Modem at my In-Laws to read your report. Congrats to you and Rob and happy holidays!

Detroit ABC TV affiliate aired a short preview of the NAIAS today and the infamous "Red C6 on top of a transporter" picture was in that ad! :)

Zippy :) :)

this pic is good...

its in the new issue of corvette magazine also...i like the look so far , but im still not convinced that open eyes are the way to go...and im looking forward to seeing it in yellow also...way out of my budget , but i can dream , right?
See ya at the show in Cobo hall ....chas

From "The Real McCoy" CAC's full-length, feature-story on the C6...
Chief Engineer, Dave Hill, took the stage; I was pumped. I was finally gonna see, up-close, the sixth-generation of America's Sports Car. Hill talked a bit, then a car cover snapped back revealing a stunning, Daytona Sunset Orange, 2005 Corvette Coupe. Holy crap! I thought, Is that sucker *****inÕ or what?

Yep. It's a Vette. Little doubt of that. But wow! In your face, fixed lights. Five inches shorter and an inch narrower. Just a little bit lighter. Noticeably C2/C3-ish. New base engine with fifty more horsepower. All new suspension and steering. New Goodyear tires, 18s in the front. 19s out back. Nicer interior. Cool, new electronic gadgetry. Whoa...welcome to Cee-freakin'-Six, people!

Personally, I think the '05's headlights look pretty damn cool and are a refreshing change from 42 years of pop-up lights. Having them fixed finally gives Corvette lighting with which to go fast in the dark along with a Òflash-to-passÓ feature. Both those attributes are very useful improvements whereas the old pop-ups, while loved by designers, were about as useful as Paris Hilton at an engineering seminar.

While we have yet to test a 2005Ðthat opportunity will not come until the car's "second" press preview to be held this coming MayÐwe're going to guess that the first characteristic a sporting driver will notice about a C6 compared to a C5 is that the car performs just a bit better but achieves that better performance in a more refined and quieter manner.

Considering the C6 Z51's weight (probably around 3200 lbs), that it has the '01-'04 Z06 transmission ratios, that it has 50 more horsepower and it's got better tires on the back, we'll say it should do the quarter in...

At 12:15 AM EST tomorrow (11:15 Cen, 10:15 Mtn and 9:15 Pac), the CAC's homepage will have a link to the full story.

Not nice to tease us, Hib! It's like waving a bone in front of a dog... be careful... some of us have teeth and aren't afraid to use them!!
