Where could I find just the straight pipe with the flanges on it for the replacement of the cat? Thanks Jim

There was one on Ebay recently that sold for about $200...one will probably surface again there soon. I'd expect that it may be cheaper and easier to make one at this point.

Thanks for the post. Would I have to still have the heat shield put back on to run the pipe with out having the converter ?

Probably not....my heat shield rattled ridiculously and I took it off 15 years ago with apparently no problems (famous last words!) Knock on wood!:w

A straight pipe isn't going to emit the heat that the cat converter would, so i don't think you'll need the shield. IMHO

I never bought a 'test pipe', nor did the shop who made it for me sell me one, b/c they offer huge fines for use on a street car. You probably know that.

You've got to be kidding, cleaning your windshield in California is illegal ! I for the life of me, can't figure out how you do anything to your car in the land of every kind of Restrictions known to man.;shrug

Why pay someone stupid money and line their pockets. Go to any good muffler shop and have them make you one, it's just straight pipe with flanges on the ends. Save yourself some money.:upthumbs

In order to avoid the fines that are FEDERAL (not just Ca) you must request a test-pipe for Off-Road use only. Most muffler shops won;t even discuss making a 'test-pipe' and installing in a car thats going to be driven away....illegal in all 50 states. Fines are in the $-thousands...$

But, offroad equipment is perfectly legal and the mfg of such is legal as long as it is identified as "off-road use only".

Have the pipe made to the same size as the cat,. then replace it yourself. If rusted flanges become an issue, have them repaired by the shop so easy disassembly is possible later.
Unless you're building a race motor, a new cat is'nt going to hurt the performance, just like a straight pipe is'nt going to help much, if any.

I bought a test pipe from ebay for $50 and just bolted it on at home, wasn't a big deal.
