i was looking under my car. correct me if im wrong but is there 2 resonators [ muffler type thingys], one on each side of the car just before the cat converter?
if these are resonators, there coming off cause not only are they starting to resemble swiss cheese and look like crap , i would like to get a bit more sound outta my exhaust. thanks.

They are the pre-cats not resonators. So actually by law you not suppose to remove them. They are ways to get rid of them and install a 3-way main cat.

They are precats, you can pass an emissions test without them, so long as the main cat is good.

Id replace the whole setup with longtube Hooker headers feeding into a Random Tech or Car-sound main cat. Or you can do a 2.5" mandrel bent front Y.

;stupid long tubes and a good main cat = :cool

thanks for the info. consider them "precats " gone! :r

It won't pass by just taking out the pre-cats. The OEM main cat is not a 3-way cat. Install a 3-way and it will pass the test. But still in reality you would fail the visual test. Highly doubt the inspector will look underneath or even know the pre-cats are suppose to be there. That's the way it is here in VA.

my 88 has one more emissions test before its too "old" and is excempt. in ontario if it fails, u can by a conditional pass even if ur missing the cat..blowing smoke and driving the biggest piece of crap on the road.
emmisions test here are a joke. its a goverment tax grab. if u have the money to buy a conditonal pass then u can drive it on the road. ex. mustangs..civics..pintos...gremlins...
