Exhaust question???

Hi

Don't ask me why but while l was under my vette today cleaning the underside the color of my exhaust caught my attention.

What really caught my attention was the color of it. It appeared to be a bright silver leading into the rear exhaust muffler's which were black. Now l know that l don't drive it in the rain and the past owner said the same but he wasn't the orig owner. I have had it for over 2 yrs and what bother's me is that it's too clean.

Am l going crazy or is this the stock exhaust and didn't notice before. I also feel it's not a stainless exhaust but it's driving me nutso.

I don't think these mufflers are stock. I put a set of Flow masters on last year and the muffler bodies are black with stainless exhuast tips. The inlets are steel. Had these on since june and the inlets and clamps show no signs of rust. I did drive it in the rain during the summer and put it away for the winter. Post a pic sombody can identify what they are.

Aluminized [spelling?] pipe often don't show rust for yrs. There are some on my vette, they don't shine but are not rusty .

Aluminized, that's the look. Any way l took a digital of it this morning and when l get home l will try to post it here.

Is this stock or after market and is it any good?

aluminzed is 'normal' for exhaust. Flowmaster exhausts are usually aluminzed. only the high end systems are stainless (Borla, tri-flo, and a few others) but they are usually over $1000.

On your car, the mufflers came painted black.

Are the tips welded in and square? They are blackish. stock, and very quiet. They sounded Buickesse to me. The Corsas replaced mine and speak to me. They were real quiet at first but have gotten throaty after 10,000 miles.

The Corsa people have told me that's not possible, but it's true, and no leaks. I theorize carbon reduces the sound cancellation port size inside the resonators and mufflers, producing more straight pipe sound.

I painted the inner portion of the tips black and now they look right, not one black and one silver after 100 miles. We have the same car.

Checked out the image you posted.... Ummm.... If I'm not mistaken, your mufflers were painted black. Again, if I'm not mistaken, that looks like peeling black paint on the left muffler.

Almost looks stock, but one thing I noticed i believe the LT1 or 4 series cars the pass side muffler clamps to the rest of the system, atleast that is how mine is. and it appears yours is one piece.. it looks stock to me though other then that.. but need some more pics.

what's the best way to paint the muffler's?

Cleaned and lightly sanded, then high temp paint...ONE coat, just enough to cover! More, will peel.
