before 60,63&82 now 90 383 Stroker & 91 ZR1-Sold
When the 90 became British a couple of weeks ago they Smog exempted her. No more Smog test forever!!!:gap

Now with the 383 it really hurts me to listen to the power thieving exhaust, so after the Brimbo break up-grade, (she has to stop as quickly as she goes), it is time for some serious exhaust work.

Here are the exhaust goals:
Reduced resonance at 1800 – 2500 RPM
No Cats.
No loss of low-end torque.
No loss of hi-end HP. (The redline is 6200 but the TPIS big mouth runs out of breath around 58.)

I have read over hundreds of post about exhaust but I am still at step one. The current setup was made to be German Smog legal, Euro´s equal to California, and took ½ a dozen tries to get it right. Stuck here in Spain trial and error is impossible. Just the cost of shipping alone would make the project cost stupid money. (I prefer to spend the extra bucks on Wine, Cheese, and my much younger wife.):m

So I am open to all suggestions. Fabricating parts from scratch is no problem.:bang

The racing season wraps up soon so there will be plenty of time and help available.

Current setup:
383 by Frankie 400+HP 400+TQ
52 mm TB
TPIS bigmouth with large tube runners
Everything ported and polished
2200 TC lockup
3.07 rear gears

I didn't see any specific info on your 383 and don't know what headers you're running if any, but the Hooker 2151's have 3" collectors. I saw a post somewhere last night with photo's of a setup with a 3" X pipe going to some torpedo (?) glass packs. It looked like an excellent set up.

I got a Magnaflow 3" x-pipe for $78 shipped (Thanks tntcorvette for the heads up on that one). The 2151's coated, from Summit Racing were, I think $518. I might be able to find that post again if you're interested.

Thanks Moon,
I like the headers a lot but I am gona need some serious Muffs. I need to be able to drive several hours at 2500 – 3500 RPM without the resonance driving me nuts.

Have you ever seen side pipes on a C4? I remember somebody, maybe Ken, had had a set. As soon as I finish reading ¨War and Peace¨ and ¨Pillars of the Earth¨ I will have a go at rereading Ken’s ¨My Engine project, the Trilogy¨. Possibly the Author will have pity on me and re-post some pics.:L

OLDACE84,
Yep, ¨Smog Exempt¨, The bureaucrats bit themselves in the butt on this one. When the European Economic Community was formed they tried to standardize the Laws of almost a dozen sovereign countries. In order to ¨CLEAN up¨ the air. All cars built after ´93 are stringently tested, almost to California standards and taxed accordingly, while those from before ´93 are lumped into groups by engine size. Our SBCs fall into the worst category, so no matter how clean we make them, we are taxed the same as a ¨Pre-emission¨ Big Block.

Conforming to the Euro law is more or less controlled by the Honor System. In Germany any car on the road has to meet the current standards or be given a ¨special¨ dirty car license which is very expensive while in Spain it is not who you know but who you bribe.

The British on the other hand are living to the letter of the law. Their attitude is, ¨If you pay the tax – you have the privilege.¨:)
