looking to put an exhaust system on my 2001 coupe, will do X pipe for sure but wondering wether to do the extreme or one step down? want loud pipes but not when i cruise. which brand do you prefer?

Stock Z06

I prefer stock Z06 but I only have the original mufflers and B&B Route 66 for comparison. I had Route 66 for a short time and the sound was different. They had a soft glasspack tone along with a slight 1500 RPM drone and a slight gurgle when decelerating. I missed the old Vette sound and replaced them with Z06 titanium mufflers. The slightly louder idle and acceleration sound was right for me.

The question is how loud do you prefer?

I prefer the fit of original parts also. The 66s were a pita keeping the tips aligned. Clamps at the mufflers kept slipping causing the tips to skew out of line. I was thinking about welding the pipe but the Z06s became available and fixed that problem for me.

If you like to hear the roar, but don't want to go deaf while cruising, GHL is the only way to go. They have had that balance down pat for a decade. I've had them on 2 C5s and 2 C6s. Just installed a set on my 2003 - sweet. My next door neighbor took my car for a ride, and ordered a set when he got home.:)

I know Catbert likes the GHL's, and his car does sound good :thumb, but I'm partial to Corsa. I have the middle of the line as far as sound goes, not Extreme (6 shooter has these and they sound good, but too loud for me) and not the Touring (these sound good too, but I wanted a bit more on acceleration). The Sport system (they used to call it the Pace Car), just the right balance of sound. Nice and throaty at idle, quiet at speed (inside the car), no drone at any speed and sounds wicked when you get on it.
