Expanding the garage

I picked up my Backyared Buddy at the trucking terminal with a borrowed stake body truck. I then took it home with a couple of buddies and we unbolted everything on the truck prior to unloading. The ramp with the piston was a monster. Fortunately I had some old broom sticks I could use as rollers to roll it off the truck. Once we tipped it down to the ground level we landed the end of it on a floor jack. It took two to get the end off the truck while the other "drove" the floor jack. If you ever get one of these delivered at the house you need a fork lift to get it off in one piece or at least 3 guys and a truck driver who doesn't mind wiating while you unbolt the shipping cradle which was mostly angle iron in my case.

More information than I thought anyone needed to know about lifts. But I did learn a lot.

One lesson I re-learned is that I will never post a picture of my garage as long as JohnZ's picture of his garage is on the 'net. :W

The second lesson is that my lift looks identical to JohnZ's but it's painted a different color. Different vendor (still can't remember mine). I wonder if this all just pure marketing bull**** and it's just like the Chinese restaurants in Manhatten - one large kitchen in the subway does all the cooking. The only difference is in what you pay. I guess you really can't be too innovative with lift design.

Finally, and a familair refrain from me is the "Buy American" sentiment. The lift I bought was advertised as "Made in USA". I Felt good about that for a half an hour or so until I saw the EXACT same motor and hydraulic pump for sale at Harbor Freight for a few hundred bucks and that was no American pump.

Ok, OK not everything can be made in the USA. But it makes me wonder what the heck is going on and who "manufactures" what. Maybe they are shipping all these ramps over in big cargo containers and they paint them different colors to give the appearance that there is an American industry behind this.

I think I'll lie down till this passes.

John...happy to do so!!! It's getting to be really crappy weather so now's the time to go "OOH, AHH" at your new digs.

BTW, been talking to VNV about having you and him up to my place in "the middle 'o da state" for a general BS session, few beers, watch the Iggles lose to some mediocre team again. I was hoping for October but geez, it's almost November. VNV said something about splitting the gas money with you :eyerole

Anyway, I would also appreciate some supervision when I work on the '66 in OC. Mark wants to help also. I will swap in the roller rockers and add a new fuel line. Should be straightforward. Please take note...both of my garages have heat, TV, stereo and cold beer/Bombay Sapphire Martinis on tap. Gotta' attract you guys somehow and my wife doesn't allow any other "entertainment" in the garage, no matter how hard I try.

I wonder if JohnZ's garage has a wide screen TV and a wet bar?

Have you ever noticed how close Delaware is to NJ? I could be there in practiaclly no time. :)

Joe - Let me know when and I will be there to help.

Mark - we can ride up to Central NJ together if you like. BTW -- how is the car doing ??

Terry - Standing invitation - I work (ugh bad word) out of the house so I am home most of the time.

There is a vette show at Smithville this Sunday. I hope to be there if the weather is ok. This is usually a really nice show.

Received my Carpets from Al Knock. And I started the Fuel Pump Control Switch Wiring. I have other things on the list to do around the house. So it's now ..when ever I get a chance ..which is mostly on the week ends.

I'll lose a day this Sunday because of the Smithville show. So..it's just little by little....

I'll split the gas and tolls with you if we can ride up in the Honda... Other wise it'll cost $487.00 in gas to cruz the Thunderchicken up to Kid's...:L .I think the 86 will be gone by then...it's doing real good on ebay.

:beer

My lift is made by Autolifters..they are now out of business...here's the reason why from the Wichiate newspaper:

Last May, Bruce Anderson, Autolifters' founder and owner, told the Wichita Business Journal that competition from Chinese-manufactured auto lifts pushed his profit margins down 30 percent. At the time, he said he was trying to compete by lowering his prices.
