Hi, new member to CAC. Very interesting! I have a 1996 Torch Red Coupe LT4. Prior to the original warranty expiration, I purchased an extended warranty. This week I am using for the first time to correct a gasket oil leak (approx $600 via Dealer). My question is: before this warranty expires, should I extend it further? I guess the real question is, in keeping this Vette, will an extended warranty pay for itself. What type of repairs might I expect? The car is just about ready to hit 40,000 miles. Up to this point the Vette has had only routine maintenance. Thanks for any input.:)

Have 59,000 on mine. I have only done maint/wear items that wouldn't be warranty in 2 years 7,000 miles. Previous owners have most receipts and the only big item was a wire short involving the ECM and CCM that was almost all labor. $1000 worth, I don't think that dealer diagnosed the problem properly. Depends what price you get quoted and how much out of pocket your comfortable with if something happens. Your call!

Welcome to both of you ..........what is the cost, company (contract), coverages, miles, and length of the contract.......for the extended plan??:w :w

Thanks for the Welcome. The cost for the original extended warranty to add 4 years to the factory 3 year warranty was $1100. It covered bumper to bumper just like Factory, and was good for the additional 4 years or 85,000 miles, which ever came first. The company Universal Warranty, Omaha, NE https://www.universalwarranty.com/mic/uwc/us/jsp/UniversalHomePage.jsp They sell the warranty through Auto Dealers, which is where I purchased mine. Same GM Dealer who services my vette.
Up until now, I hadn't had to use it. The reason for my original post was to attempt to ascertain, what if any other "common" repairs I might expect, so I could do some advanced planning.:)

The best extended warranty I ever had was www.warantydiret.com when I had my LT4 I totally spaced out when I bought it and forgot to get it from GM. So I looked online and since the car had low miles around 25k I bought the 7/70,000 k plan which starts from the birthdate of the car soI had about 4/40000 actual coverage the total cost was $700.00. Since the GM warranty had already run out they charged me and additional $75.00 to get it going. Well the Transmission, went out and at that time ZF did not release rebuild kits so they were considered "non servicable" and a brand new transmission had to be put in they ended up paying over 8 grand for all the work and labor and out of pocket to me was 50 bucks, best 700 dollars I ever spent. Of course the clutch and flywheel let go too, so they paid for a flywheel and additional 1500 dollars including labor but I had to eat the cost of the clutch since it a "wearable part" so all in all I was very pleased with there warranty. they paid for everything over the phone to the service department with a credit card :beer
