I just had my 65 air brought back to life. It cost me a bundle but if I can get it working right It will be worth it hear in florida. Anyway Iam getting around 68 degrees in the vent ,which is a bit warm . The teck that did the work says that is about all I can expect from this system. Ive heard that this air is not the best but 68 in the vent I feel is not acceptible ,and by the way thats with the windows and top up. If you have any experiance with this Id like to hear your input. thanks. Roland

Thanks for the reply. I had the compressor replaced with one like the original (harrison) kept the evap. & cond. units , replaced hoses and drier. Roland

Those big old axial compressors will freeze you out if everything is right. I had a '64 Impala that would fog up the chrome plated metal dash vents on a humid day. The Corvette system really isn't any different in design. Seems like it should be around 45 degrees at the vent but I can't find the temp listed in the service manual.

They put in the 134 gas. I took a low side reading myself and got 30lb. at idle cant do the high side.

Factory specs for a correctly-charged '65 Corvette A/C system are as follows:

Outside Air Temp Center Outlet Air Temp
70 36
80 36
90 38
100 39
110 41
120 43

You should be able to hang meat in there when it's working right :cool

Well I learned something, the vent on the passanger side is the return for the a/c. I thought it was a vent for freash air. After I opened it I was recirculateing the inside air instead of the outside air and the temperature droped. Thanks for all the feedback guys Iam sure this wont be the last time I call on everybodys help.

Hanging meat.......I like that John!!

I used to get 32 degrees out of the center vent on both 67 AC cars I owned. With R-12 that was. New R134 should work almost as well, but will probably take longer to cool off.

Remember guys, this same system was used in station wagons and big Caddys and Buicks. So the little Corvette interior should be frost bitten when the AC is working proper.
