The engine temp goes up with the AC on because you are now pushing hot refrigerant through the AC condensor...which sits right in front of the radiator...so the air going through the radiator is already hotter than ambient temperature.

Damn laws of physics prevail yet again. ;)

The C4 just needs a bigger radiator. The stock one is so whimpy it's not even funny.

Change the thermal fan switch for first off to make sure it is working properly. The car should get up to 228-229 then the fan should kick on and start cooling. 220-230 with the AC in heat is very normal for these cars. Your temp will rise when the car is just idling cause there is no air going thru the radiator. keep us posted.
