Few Questions: Lowering, Speedometer, Suggest Rears?

This is the only protruding part I can find - but its not polished like I would expect a part to be after rubbing for over an hour at 75 mph.

Prev. owner said he bought them used and doesn't remember looking at the inner sidewall.
Mounting shop did not say anything about it.

I kept the radio off the entire trip so I could listen. Never heard any rubbing and didn't smell burning rubber at either of my stops on the way home last night.

Checking the Corvette threads re: rear tire sizes on C4s.

Is is unsafe to have runflats on the front and non runflats on the rear?
(tires will behave differently in corners and such?)

Should I be able to return to a 285 width tire (like the 17inch ones I had stock) but in an 18inch version to fit these new rims?

update:

Picking up a set of 18 inch non-runflat Eagle F1 tires the local shop ordered for another Vette, and never picked up.
They are matching TireRack's price of $268 plus shipping of 20$.

Since I don't want to mix front runflats with rear non runflats, I am moving my older Eagle GS-C 17inch fronts from the Sawblades to the new Chrome Rims for 11$ each.

This was the cheapest route I could go and still be rolling on good rubber in the morning.

I now have a great set of 17inch Eagle F1 EMT runflats for sale! 245/45 ZR17
And a set of rear 17inch Eagle GS-C 285/40 ZR17 tires, too.
(as well as a set of sawblade rims- 2 pass side rims have curb rash that I don't think Wheelmasters can repair)

Closure:

Sold my curb rashed Sawblade rims to the kid who put my tires on today. $$$
Sold my rear 285/40 tires to him too! $$$ (they only had a little life left in em)

Nearly sold the F1 runflat fronts but the other guy didn't have the cash to spare at the end of the month.

So now I have my Goodyear GS-C tires on the front and new Eagle F1s on the rear.
Much more comfortable ride and very quiet -

Alas, I had no time to lower the rear today
