For those of you that recall my previous paint problems... they are now resolved. This is the 3rd and final paint job for my 68 (see pic attached). I finally found a guy in Houston that actually knows what he is doing. He won best of show for his paint at the Houston Autorama in 2005 and is also being published in a few truck magazines. He does a lot of Corvettes mainly because there is a company down the street from him that does Corvette restorations, so they trade out a lot of business.

Its a Candy Apple w/ 5 Silver Base, 7 Candy, 7 Clear, & 7 PGP 2002 Clear. Approx. 2 coats of clear were sanded off, so it ends up having 26 coats. Its definitely a show finish!

I still have a lot of small things to do to the car to call the restore complete. The car is going to make its debut at a show in Victoria, TX on Fathers Day weekend. If any of you live in that area, stop by.

Is that two-tone or just the reflection exactly at the creases in the body? I'm guessing it's just reflection.

So! What was the bill for all that paintin'??? :D

It's just reflections on the angles of the body. The paint really stands out in the evening when the light is just right.

Well... the main reason for the 3rd paint job is that a tow truck company damage the 2nd paint and some body when they offloaded it. Insurance paid for $5000 of the repairs and paint back to where the door meets the rear quarter. I paid about $4000 for the rest of the paint. They basically re-blocked the car back down to the glass and fixed a lot of age cracks and brought back all of the lines the way they should be.

9 Big doesn't sound all that unreasonable...
Do you do a lot of driving or is it mostly a show car / trailer queen? I know I with my dark paint, I started noticing EVERY little stone nick and what not. Oh well!!! Can't get overly upset about that kinda thing no matter how much we pay. It's bound to happen! (but why to my car?!!? :L I found that road debris that normally bounces off the car at 70mph tends to embed itself at 150mph... :L)

I'm going to put it in a lot of shows, but I'm still going to drive it. Why put all this money into something and not have fun with it :D .

The painter told me not to worry too much about rock chips. The paint he used has more of a urathane base which is more elastic than normal paint. Even so, he can air brush in candy and not even tell.

I don't think I'll be doing 150 in this car. 100 is as high as I've taken so far. Although I think I could... see attached. Its a 427, but don't know the HP yet. I'm estimating close to 500.

Congratulations!!!!! Beautiful Car!!

Sweet looking !!!!very pretty color!!!!!!!!!!

VERY nice looking shark you got there. I'm glad you're going to drive it too. I can't understand people who just trailer them around from show to show, unless it's a ultra rare, super low mileage peice of history that could never be duplicated.

Your right... thats part of the fun after the labor. There's no better way to enjoy a car than get it out on the open road and watch everyone give themselves whiplash as you fly by'em!

If a show is a good distance, I'll trailer it, but if it local area, I'll drive. With this block I have it in now, you can actually watch the fuel guage move if you look at it long enough. This thing only like Super too, so it not cheap. Still fun though!!!

Thanks for all the compliments. One day real soon, I'll have a web site up with all the photos.
