Oh how I can relate to this. In late May I was driving along when the car started to stumble and then I smelled gas and immediately drove home. In the short distance I drove the car when this happened I pumped almost a quarter of a tank of gas onto the engine from a broken O ring on the fuel cross over tube between the fuel rails. There have been other Corvettes on this site that have caught fire and they all seem to be starting back by the firewall. I would suggest that those O ring seals should be replaced if they are the originals or if they have been reused. Less than $5.00 for seals is cheap insurance against this happening to you. I bought a whole package of seals at a bearing supplier who did not have exactly the right O ring. What he had was the right diameter but was thinner so I put two of them together.
If you smell gas when walking around your car don't drive it until you find out were it is coming from or you may be the next one to go up in flames.
