Nascar didn't have (or want) any until Skoal came along.
I know Bobby LaBonte won the championship in 2000 driving that Interstate Batteries car - a very green car. I am not sure about this one - but D.W. himself had that green lettered car (was it Mountain Dew?) and he may have won the championship in that. If not the championship cetainly some races.

I know now that a garage is a must!!

BOY HOWDY!

L48 - Harry Gant drove the green Skoal car 10 years before Labonte won - it was previous to that - not a rule, just a superstition

If its any consulation, green race cars here are also seen as unlucky!

But back to the thread, Smallstonefan, IMO buying a Corvette is not just buying a car, but usually a fulfilment of a long-held passion.
You buy the one that ignites your passion!!!!!
For me "a Corvette" was a C3, as this is the one I remember as a teenager! (Born 1963) so when i had the opportunity, this is what I got. Yes C4's, C5's drive better etc etc but to me they are not what i identify with as "A Vette"
I have a friend who owns & loves the C2's as he was born in about 1952, so during his teenage years, the C2 was "A Vette"

Point being, buy what you want!!! What ignites your passion!!!

Then you just work with or around the "issues" of that model.
Most importantly, have FUN!!!
Just my $0.02 worth
Good Luck

Ditto to ALL the above :beer

Don't let the Cross fire in the 82's scare ya. Common Sense in working on it goes a long way. Once the Cross Fire is set it will provide plenty of "smiles per mile". First and foremost you need to be happy. Also keep in mind that 82's have an overdrive tranny. It has a deep first gear for snappy accelration. Also 82 and 84 OD Transmission have a 4th gear WOT lock out. This means if you keep your foot to the floor the trans will stay in 3rd gear until you lift. I spent the 50 bucks to get the new 3-4 shift sleeve to eliminate that annoyance.

Good Luck!

Thanks again everyone - I'll be taking a look at the 82 around noon on Monday...

For me, the C3 is "the vette". I understand they're all vettes and they're all great cars, but being 36, the C3 is it... :)

Works for being 53 also.......:upthumbs :D

James,
What part of Nebraska are you from? What do you think about the "NEW" Huskers? BTW, C3s are cool as are ALL Corvettes. Good luck finding the right one.

Crash in Utica

I'm in Papillion, just south of Omaha. You know, CNN/money magazine just rated Papillion the 23rd best city in the US to live in. Geeze, I don't get tired saying that! lol

You've heard of that one person in Nebraska that's not a sports fan? Well, that's me. :) I might catch one or two games in a year, but that's about it and I don't follow any of the stats or the drama. In fact, I don't watch ANY sports, but that's another story. :) Utica is about out west of Lincoln, is that right?

James

Utica is 35 mi West of Lincoln. I'm originally from Omaha, moved out here to raise the kids in a small town atmosphere 15 years ago. Glad to hear you're not a Husker crazy, me either. I enjoy watching the games when they are on TV and if I get free tickets, I'll take the kids.
Who is the dealer you're working with? Take your time and be sure the car you pick out is the one you want. I sold my '96 a year ago 'cause there are no curvy roads within 100 miles and driving a 140mph car @ 65 REALLY sucks! I hope to move back to the city in a few years and pick up another 'Vette then. At least in the city there is some traffic to play with. Out here it's pickups, Buicks and red '00 Grand Ams and straight roads.

I currently own an 81,and a 94, and I couldn't tell you which one I like best. They are two completly different expriences driving them, and I enjoy them both. The 81 is a cruiser, the 94 has been modified for hard driving. Besides driving them both, you have to think about what you will be using the car for. If it is just for cruising around in, I would think about the C3, if you plan on autox, drag or road course racing, the C4 is probably a better option.

The cross fire is a good system, but the downside to it is it is not a very good system for highly modified cars. I you plan on racing, go with the C4. You will attract more attention in the 82. It seems to me that they are asking top of the market pricing for this car, be sure to shop around before you make your decission. You might ask around Corvette clubs, shops, and car shows in your area for cars that might be available for sale.

Good luck!
