I hope to finally fulfill the dream of owning a corvette but just begininng to research used models. Can someone help suggest best ways to learn about used corvettes and help me compare models? I am currently looking at a 1995 convertible, Calif. owned, excellent condition with 29,200 miles and asking price of $22K. What can be said about the 95 Corvette and are there some special things I should be thinking about? Thanks, K.W.

Nice Decission....Vette that is. We all been thru it. Love the C3 look, hard to deal with the drive and HP. C5 Great but to much money. C4 the most bang for your buck... 22K is a bunch of money. If you are willing to spend 22k drive a c5. Otherwise look for 96' with the lt4 engine. 5 in the 8th digit of vin. Will drive neck to neck with the c5's. Good luck.

Good Luck on the car search, I am a C3 guy so can't help to much with the C4 and C5. A good place to look is the local Corvette Club where you live, they can let you know if members have cars for sell or where good deals might be had. My advice is drive lots of cars, go slow, and always ask for docunment about the car you are interested in. Different things are important to different Corvette owners, it depends on if you are buy the car as your daily driver or as an investement, or just as a cool car to drive when you feel like it. Again go slow and DRIVE LOTS OF CARS before you make up your mind.

My advice, drive several before buying. I've noticed a big difference between the feel of different cars.

Also suggest you test drive a 96 lt4.

good luck

$20k will get you a LT4 car, or even a early ZR1. Shop around before you impulse buy, thats the very high $ for the LT1 cars.

Good luck :)

check kelly blue book on-line. that seems mighty high to me.and most of all-DONT IMPULSE BUY!

Hurricane Francis!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

I would look for a 96 lt4, l made a mistake and bought the LT1, even though l love it, it lacks the added horsepower.

But keep in mind that a C5 today or by early Oct should be in the low 20's and do watch the mileage on all vettes.

Now that the hurricane is approaching you must make sure and check for water damage on any car that you like. And get a car-fax to get a feel where it has been.

Now a car-fax does not always tell you all about the car but it helps. If a person had an accident (minor) and paid for it cash, it would not show up. And if a person changed his own oil, the mileage can not be proven.

The mileage can be played with so no matter what it reads look closely to make sure that it looks what the mileage reads. The person who played with the mileage could have been two owners ago.

And the most important thing is to bring someone that knows about vettes with you or it could cost you dearly.

Also it pays to have a dealership change the oil so that when you sell your car and the new owner checks the car-fax there will be a record of the mileage.

Don't get cheap.

Alan

Get the newest car you can for your money.

A newer model with higher milage is better than an older one with low miles. Really low miles do nothing but pump up the price and do not equate to a trouble free ride. (I bought a 95 in 2001 with 13,900 miles on it.)

Read all you can for a few weeks, drive both an automatic and stick of each model if possible.

There are no bad Vettes, only bad owners.
