fixin to buy an '80 vette

-note also that the '80-Vette was some 200-lbs lighter (owing to more extensive use of aluminum particularly in the rear-drivetrain), and Hark! --the last year without any sort of computer-operation, and so has the good'ol reliable Rochester Qudrajet-carburetor (except for the freakie small-305cu.in Calif. iterations, -which were the first-year with a computer-operation). The nice thing about the Quadrajet-carb. is that if you know how to fix a toilet, you can learn to fix the Q-jet!! The internal fuel-floats are rather like that of the old toilet-valve design. The Rochester is more complex and trickie to adjust (hence many inept mechanics speak bitterly of it), but when done right via an overhaul-kit, -are actually even better in performance & economy than a Holly or Carter-afb; --(actually, believe HollyCorp. now owns Rochester-carb.Co. Another thing to check on, is to see if anyone might have possibly installed a later TH700R-4 transmission, --which would be a real Plus, if the job was done well. Lastly, if you are really looking for a "cream-puff", always try to buy a car like this from a pvt.party whom has most of their service-records/parts-replacement documentation, --and an "orig.owner" is pure-gold as you know a quarter-century the car has probably been their pride-n'joy! Some Used-car dealers have a way of moving a car around between certain states, as to thereby loose a salvaged-title inscription (Calif. for example clearly states "SALVAGED" -right on the face of the title)... -B.B.
