My CE 6 speed has flowmasters, and I was wondering what the scoop is on them. I like the sound but was wondering about performance.
Thanks Larry ;shrug

Others may disagree with me here, but as far as the actual mufflers you have on, for performance I don't think there's really much difference in them when you're looking at the flowmaster/corsa/magnaflow/etc. I think they're all an improvement over the stock mufflers and it's more a matter of figuring out which one puts out the sound that you like best. I also believe you'll get a slight performance improvement with any of them, but to get the most out of your exhaust you'll need to think about the whole system. Long tube headers will be a good upgrade along with high flow cats, new pipes all the way back (I'd reccomend 2 1/2" pipe) and get rid of the resonator if it's still there.

I also think that there could be a dozen different replies to this, all slightly different, and all still pretty much be correct...because I feel like this is as much just finding the sounds that you're happy with and personal preference as much as anything.

If you like the flowmasters, then stick with'em, that's what I run on mine and love them.

Rascal, I agree that to really get some significant benefit you go with full exhaust upgrade. I have been tinkering with my 96 ce LT4 and found that the exhuast was the one bolt on item that really made a difference. I started out in the late 90's with Triflow 3" cat back system. This year I installed the long tubes...20 horses on Dyno. 320 rear wheel to 340. That's almost 400 at flywheel.

The other stuff I did also added up to a much better performing ride.
Cold Air intake
Hi perf Clutch/Presure plate
Aluminum Fly Wheel
Hi pressure Fuel regualtor
Jet performance chip
Hypertech tuning
4.10 rear...wow
This has been a slow process since 96 so I did not have to bleed $$ if you know what I mean. I'm posting this to give other folks some fun bolt on stuff that can really make you smile. :D

:Dfor what itis worth i have the flowmaster cat back on my 90 zr1 the car puts out 409.9 rwhp and 373.86tq and runs 12.20s @117mph . thinking i was costing myself power i went to dr gas and had them build what was suppose to be the end all exhaust. i still with the dr gas run almost the same exact times as with the flowmaster both by the way are 21/2 in pipe . the dr gas resonates so bad i get a headache everytime i drove with it .the flowmaster is back on and no more asprin

My 3" tri flow gives the headache you speak of. Only in 6th at hwy speads. W/gas at 4 bucks I try to use 6th as much as possible.
Anyway my resonatoer that is warrentied for life has a leak. I called over to B-B industries the makers of triflow and they sending me an x-pipe as a replacement. From what I understand it will help prevent me from going deaf at the tender young age of 52. LOL.:chuckle

vetter, I love that color coded bra on those great pics you posted. Did you buy those? If so where??

They're available at Corvette Central http://www.corvettecentral.com/

P/N 104546 You have to replace front wheel well screws with furnished snaps- it's pretty simple. when it gets dirty, you can throw it in the washer!

i was in a 69 the other day with a big ass 427 and side pipes.... my ears are still ringing and i can still feel my butt vibrating
