Nothing really wrong with the factory mufflers, their just a little quiet for my taste. I want something throaty, not too loud, but loud enough that I can enjoy it without disturbing others around me. I dont want to spend $800-$1000 on a muffler system.

Has anyone installed Flowmasters or know someone who has? If so, how do they sound, and based upon my above desires, are they something that might fit the bill.

Also, I know the PCM in these C-5s are touchy. Will it effect anything or require reprograming of anything?

Thanks in advance for the input, help, and time you spent reading this.

Stan

FlowMasters were the first mod I made. Sounds just fine to me but others might disagree. Find a Corvette club or hangout in your area and go listen to some of the others.
FYI: West Coast Mufflers did mine here in Concord Ca. They have done a lot of them and said it's actually easier to cut the existing pipe right after the flange and cut the flange off the flowmaster then weld the 2 cut places back together. He said it was a PITA to put the factory configuration together. It took him all of 20 minutes to do the job.

I bought mine and it had Flowmasters on it. I like them. Loud enough to sound good but can still have a conversation and hear the CD.
By what you say you are looking for I think it would be a good choice.

I would try and find someone with a C5 with Flowmasters before you make the purchase. I have found that Flowmasters seem to have a "metalic" ring to them alot of the time. I also have a 72 442 and I went with the Dynamax "Ultra Flows" and am very happy with they way they sound........but before you buy any muffler or exhaust system.....try and give it a listen first..........

Before you buy any muffler or exhaust system..... listen to them first .......... Everybody likes something differrent. I put on a set of indys and my Vette sounded like a motor boat with a very un-Corvette sounding 2 stroke motorcycle poping noise on decel. I now have a custom system. LISTEN FIRST

If you would like to hear a sound bite for flowmaster exhaust, go to this web-site. http: thirdgen.org You may have to search a bit. Look under Media, then scroll through the list. I think this will help you make a decision.

dont forget the c5 (ls1)has a decent sized cam and a different firing order,no other car will sound like a c5 with or without flowmasters.i am going with headers random tech cats and stingers real soon,so im in the middle of an experiment now.i gutted the cats (o2 simulators)and took a uni-bit and drilled about 15, 1 inch holes in each muffler.the sound is very deep,but not loud enough for me,c.d.s are no problem to listen to,most people say my car sounds like a full size chevy truck with a loud exhaust.no renosonse once the cats were gutted,but make sure the tips extend out past the rear of the car,if not you will get echos under the car that might be mistaken as renosonse.my current set up is only for a couple of months,i want the cats (random tech) back on the car.i did not get every last piece of the cat junk out,and you can hear them rattling inside the cats at low rpms.
corsa=motor boat sound
borla=big block (deep)sound,later,Todd.

I have the QTP Electric Exahust. Im very happy with it. Its has a valve that bypasses the mufflers so its loud enough for me. If the wife is in the car I flip a switch and its back to stock.

I couldn't agree more - I had Flowmasters on a C4 that I owned & on a C3 that I still have (I have Corsa's on my C5), I had to take the Flowmasters off, the resonance was so bad that my passengers were getting headaches .. there are lots of good exhaust systems out there, but you should ride in them before buying ...

Good luck ..

:w :)

Jorge,
Do you have to change the computer's tune when the QTP Electric Exahust is open? Won't it cause a lean condition if you open the pipes up? Do you need to use a HyperTech or a laptop PC to reprogram for when you open the exhaust? It sounds like a really good solution, having "loud" availible at the flip of a switch. Can you please post some pics of how you routed the pipes.
Thanks,
Frank

Nope no computer modification is needed for this mod. I mounted mine right were the muffler pipes bend so that all the sound comes out the back of the car. As long as you mount it after the cats your fine with youre computer. Sounds nice too. It isnt as loud as flow masters but its a very nice none stock sound.
Everyone thats been in the car likes it. DOnt have any pics but i can try to get some. Its also alot cheaper. about 350 installed

Why not consider the Z06 titanium system. That's what I did. GM built, very light and a little more throaty in the car, and louder for those outside the car. You can find them used for under $500 with very little miles on them.
