I'm considering the Flowmaster #17217 Cat Back System.I understand that it comes with the 50 Series Delta Flow Mufflers which is their 3 Chamber Design. This is supposedly the Least Interior Resonance Prone Flowmaster design Available.

Anyone Running This Set Up and is there a Interior Resonance Concern?

Thanx

I've got a similar Flowmaster-based exhaust...
see Corvette Action Center Knowledgebase :: 1992 - 1996: Tech Article: Quietly Powerful: How to Build a C4 LT1/4/5 Exhaust that Gains 28 hp and...is Quiet

I've also tested that particular part on a 96 and saw 5-8 hp increased.

The Flowmaster system does resonate but it does so less than some other of the cat-backs on the market. The problem with drone and the C4 is just as much a problem with the design of the car's interior as it is with the exhaust systems, ie: it's almost impossible--other than keeping the stock exhaust--to eliminate all drone.

I'm prettty sure the 50 Delta is the largest Flowmaster which will fit in the space where the mufflers go on a C4.

Great Article Hib.So if I use the Series 50 Delta Flows I'll have less Interior Resonance than the Cat back system?

I like that.

Thanx Hib

Have had the system for quite a while, cat-back. resonance is nil!

95 A4.

I'd contact Flowmaster before you buy. I'm not sure the cat-back for 92-96 uses the 50 Delta Flow or just the regular 50 series.

If the muffler they use is a standard 50, there might be a slight improvement in drone if you replaced the standard mufflers that come with the cat-back with the 50 Delta but...I'm not sure of that.

Looked thru my old receipts & found that the #17217 came with flowmaster muffler (s) part No. #425601-102 & # 425601-101, left & right.

I E-Mailed Flowmaster and asked that question. They told me it was a "Special" 50 Series Muffler designed just for the C4's.He did mention that the resonator helped give it a Deep Tone and reduced drone.

Choosing the exhaust for your car is sooooo much a personal preference decision for a lot of it, search the forum and you'll find people that absolutely love every exhaust system brand out there for the most part of it. That said, there's flowmasters on my car, true dual, no resonator, I do have some of the resonant drone at about 17-1800rpms but it's not bad and I actually got used to what it does have pretty quickly and don't even notice it anymore. It's got kind of an old school soft deep rumble to it and I love it. One thing that hasn't been mentioned, to make sure you're aware of it, be sure the muffler tips extend out past the rear end of the car a little, if they don't then it'll echo off of it and you'll definitely end up with a lot of cockpit exhaust noise. It doesn't have to stick out much back there but the muffler tips need to be past the bottom lip of the body, hope that makes sense how I'm trying to say it. Good luck picking out what you want and when you get something I hope you're very happy with the sound you end up with!

I remember reading alot of negative things with regards to Flowmaster and Vettes years ago. But when I had my 81 Vette, the PO put in Flowmasters and it sounded pretty good. It had a low rumble which I liked. I don't care too much for that raspy sound which I think Borla and Corsa has from the videos I've watched.

Though, part of my resonance problem could be because the tips of the stock mufflers on mine have rust through holes in it, and there are some rust through holes on the piece right after the cat.

leave flowmaster for beat up cars and redneck trucks. they're cheap and they make a low-brow C4 truck motor sound like a WWII army tank.

I'm guessing you like the raspy exhaust sound like with Borla? I always thought that sounded annoying. Though, I can see where you are coming from as Flowmasters are a popular truck exhaust and have a very distinct sound like a Harley.

I do like the sound of the new C6. Someone has one a few houses down. When I'm outside, I can tell when he is coming up the road on the way home.

Run what you want to run, I'll keep my flowmasters TYVM and I get plenty of compliments on the sound.

Yeah, I like the lower rumble you get compared to Borla and alot of the top priced mufflers. Some of those can sound like a ricer. Waaaaaaaaaaaa.

How is the resonance with the flowmasters? I've got alot with the stock mufflers.

There is some resonance around 1700-1900 or so rpm's but it's not bad, I also have true duals, no resonator box or x pipe or anything to help cut it out though. I really don't even think about it or notice it myself anymore honestly unless I'm thinking about it.
