Foglight Air Intakes

I would like to get a little cold air into my intake system. I am considering 3 options:

1. Use a hole saw to create holes next to my fog lights then install aftermarket screens. Has anyone tried this and if so how did it turn out?

2. Purchase aftermarket inserts for the fogs with screens. I have read that these can be rather pesky to install without a lift. I don't have access to a lift and cannot work on my back under her due to health problems.

3. Have the dealer install a factory Z06 setup for me. Does anyone have an idea about how much this would cost?

Any suggestions or advice or personal experience with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Morgan

Edmond,

Thanks for the reply but the filter system isn't what I was asking, I already know what I'm doing with that. I just need some feedback about the foglight air intake ideas.

Thanks
Morgan

Oops,

As to the Vararam system the cost is beyond my bugdet. I have read that it is a very good system but not what I had in mind,

Nice job. Great idea, best of both worlds. Did you see any improvement in performance or engine temperature?

I installed Z06 screens in mine. You will need to remove the foglamp molding or drill/dremel it up for airflow.

I removed the existing fog lamp molding piece, then I installed the screens the hard way with a lift and screws. An easier and quicker way to install and secure the screens after you remove the foglamp molding is to use velcro to secure the screens in place. Place velcro on the screen and on the coresponding part of the fascia, place a piece of paper/cardboard between them as you insert the screen, and then remove the cardboard.

I have a temp probe installed near the air fillter lid slot, and it dropped the temperatures during the summer months about 10 deg. As far as performance I am not going to venture a seat of the pants rating, but cooler air can't hurt.

I dremeled the fog light inserts from the front of the car, so cool air could enter the area around the original air filter and still keep my fog lights. I then bought a set of GM Z06 screens, Cut off the rear mounting tabs so they fit flush and hit the front of the C5 plastic fog light inserts. Once they were trimmed, I used double face tape (you can also use velcro as pointed out above) to keep them there. 2 years later they're still there, look like OEM Z06, until the fogs go on, and cooler air, is denser air to the motor, meaning more power. I also dremeled the stock air filter lid with a flat K&N filter. It still has half the surface area of a Donaldson, but it's cheap and gives better flow than stock.
