I just replaced only my rear brake lights with LED replacement bulbs. All I have to say is WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!

I got them at www.superbrightleds.com They have direct fit replacements for almost any bulb size and I have to say I will be doing the rest of the lights, except headlights, now (I probably sound like a commercial). Plus they are an inexpensive alternative to the LED conversion system and change none of the stock wiring, just plug them in. Only thing is that the dielectric grease will cause them not to work properly (cleaned the grease for like 1/2 an hour).

Thought you might be interested in the info.

Happy driving :w

Been thinking about the LED replacements. Now I know I will being replacing them as soon as I can get the thing back on the road. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Hey vettin1, what is the LED part # for the ones that you used. I know you noticed a diff. but how are they if you stand off to the side a little, Thanks:D

The part # I replaced was the standard 1157 bulb. The LED's at www.superbrightleds.com are listed as the same part #'s as the stock bulbs.

When standing off to the side they are a tad dimmer but not by much. Looking at them from the back I was standing higher looking down at them, because our cars are soo darn low to begin with, and I am still very impressed, especially at night, WOW!

I would say they are approximately 2 times brighter than the stock, however, I purchased the 12 LED replacement bulb fearing that more LED's on the bulb would not fit in the stock plae for the original bulb. I think I guessed right becuase the bulbs fit like a glove.

I hope everyone finds the info useful.

Would a pic of the back of the car at night help? I will post one soon.

You'll hate me, but the most useful pic would be one stock bulb and one LED bulb in the same shot... Otherwise, I've got nothing really to compare it to.

Ya, bring on the pics :beer I didn't really understand the first paragragh in the quote above though :confused

I'm with Rich and was thinking just that, today. One standard 1157; one LED.

I understand that you bought white, 12LED units, narrow focus?

Did you have any problems with your turn signals, like I did when doing my 'Euro' look, with only one amber flashing, each side?
Thanks in advance. :w

I had a problem getting them to work properly because of the dielectric grease. Once that was cleaned off the contacts in the socket they were beautiful. I bought 1157 12 RED Led bulb, narrow focus (have to use RED LED's through a red lens). I bought the narrow focus, looking back I probably should have bought the wide angle, but I'm still happy with the results.

If you browse the site you will see all the different types of bulbs and # of LED's that you can order, 12 LED's fits in the lenses perfectly. I'm not sure if you can get a larger # of LED's in there.

I will post a pic of the rear end :L for all to see, and this weekend I will stick my hand back up there ;) and replace one of the bulbs with the originals and get a pic of it for ya!

Oh, I forgot to say how much they were. $4.95 each. Since they were inexpensive I decided to take a shot w/them, plus I saw them on my friend's truck. This pic won't really do them justice but it's something.

Hey vettin, How long did it take you to get them????? I ordered some for the Eldorado on the 2nd and am dying to get them!!!!!!! PLEASE ADVISE!!!!:D

I ordered mine on sun june 27, over the internet, and received them on thurs july 1 so for me it was 4 business days. You have to keep in mind all the holidays we have had so far.

Good luck! Hope you like the lights!

I beg to differ

I bought the same thing for my '96. They were half as bright and the flashers didn't work for turn signals. I didn't clean the grease. I want the grease.

The flashers are picky on the wattage. I'm glad they worked for you so well. I was assured they would be great by the salesman. They sucked for me.

I did do the backup/side marker upgrade to halogens. 6 in all. That lit up my world nicely.

I was told by my friend that is a mechanic that the grease is not necessary for LED's and it will hinder the operation. He went into why with resistance and the technical specs for LED's and I think that's just too long to write out but after I cleaned the grease the directionals worked perfectly and everyone seems to be amazed at the results. I now have friends with other cars getting them left and right. I don't feel as special but it's OK.

However, thanx for the input.

Cheers!
