Hey guys, i just got a 95 vette with a 6-speed (315s in the back 285s in front) and im trying to figure out what RPM i should launch at and what RPMs i should make my 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 shifts at for best performance (going fast, that is). I just want to hear about your experiences. thanks.

The answer to your questions depend on if it is stock. Assuming stock(your tires are not):

1. Hp curve peaks at 5000-5200 rpm, so try shifting a little latter, say 5200-5400. With 1.6 rr's
I used to shift mine at 5500rpm. If you have it dyno'd, you can see where to shift. As for 1-2,3-4, 5-6, the engine is the same, for max. performance, always shift at that same rpm. Rev limiter is at 5850rpm, it's ok to hit it. You'll feel less pull as the hp curve drops off.

2. Launch: depends on tires and if road surface is pavement or treated drag strip. For best performance with stock tires on dry pavement, try 1500 rpm. If it bogs(no tire spin, but car just "pauses", does not get up and go immediately), give it more rpm. If you spin the tires more than an instant, try less rpm.

Thanks a lot, thats just what I needed to know. By the way, the car is all stock (except for the tires, of course).

Ditto to sothpaw's comments.

Do you pop the clutch each time (clutch/shift as fast as you can) - or drag the clutch out just a bit? launch and 1-2, etc????

Thanks,
Chetzki

Chetzki,

Your LT4 is a different animal, so you will have to shift later, I'd guess 6000 rpm for a stock LT4.

I always press the clutch down, move the stick, and clutch out. When I'm doing it fast, I might not get the clutch all the way down, but that's probably bad for wear.
