POR-15 is some kind of awesome paint. I painted my crossmember last nite, and I did it with a brush.
As I was painting, it was leaving streaks all over from the 2 1/2
inch brush. Oh well, it was not going to be seen anyway.
I went back in the shop after 3 hours of doing nothing, and
holy s**t, this thing look powder coated. I swear it left a glass
look to it. As if it was done with a gun by an expert.
This stuff has to be kick a** for all suspension parts and everything else.

So for those of you that don't know, it's time to try this stuff.
be sure to read on how to use this stuff also, they claim one
drop of sweat could ruin a entire can of por-15.
I wish i coould post pic's of the the cross member :D

Ain't it great!! I love that stuff. Just don't get it on your hands, as anyone who's had it on them can attest. ;)

I've only used the black so far, but the other colors look to be pretty cool, like the silver. :cool

POR-15

Yea, now i want to paint my spindels and control arms.(silver)
Funny how good paint can motivate you to do more work.LOL

That stuff is why everything takes so long. If I pull pieces off and get access to the frame, POR15 gets put on it.

If only I had a lift instead of a dolly. I envy those of you that get to access the whole frame at one time.

I use the gray and then paint over with satin black. The pictures don't do it justice.

I thought the same, this has to be seen in person

Looks like POR paint will provide a good rust preventive surface.

I wasn't familiar with this product when doing my body off redo. I used PPG two part epoxy paint which also did a fine job. In addition to stopping rust it bonds well to fiberglas. I brushed it on the frame and cleaned underbody for a nice finish, as it has good flow characteristics. You only mix what you can use in about 20 minutes. The paint number is PPG DP40 1LF catalyst and DP 90LF primer which is black, but it also comes in colors. My body shop friend told me it was designed to stop rust in Chrysler cars back in the 70's. One qt primer and 1 qt catalyst $75.

My roll bar actually was better off with one coat of the black. I used a second coat and you can see a few brush strokes as a result. :o

Overall, it don't look too awful bad do it? :gap

Looks AWSOME to me! How do you like those seats? They look good too. I've been thinking about upgrading my '73 seats but everything I find is so expensive. Maybe in my next life...

Ken, can you post a bigger pic showing the bottoms as well?
thanks

The seats are very comfortable, with what little seat time I've had that is. :L

Where is the best place to buy POR-15?

I am almost at the stage on my project where I will need to coat the frame.

Thanks!
Bill

Does POR-15 go pretty far?

In other words, will a gallon be enough to coat an entire frame?

I would think so. If you are covering something that large go with the gallon. Otherwise go with the pints. It is a little more expensive that way but there is much less waste. No matter how hard you try, the dry paint eventually fouls the top of the can as you open and close the can, you can't get the lid on air tight and paint is wasted.

I used about a gallon of POR-15 on my frame and drivetrain. Great stuff!
