Ford Recall - C4 problem too?

Ford cars have been burning due to a default cruise control switch. Do GM cars have this switch? I looked and we do have one similar in the C4 master cylinder, is this brake related or other.

I say this because when my 92 burned on the freeway I never knew what/how it happened. I do remember the previous day I drove 400 miles and did 140 MPH, the vette had 195K miles

by appearances, GM's (Corvette) cruise control is totally different.

While similar in principle, they do not show anything interchangable and I have not heard of incidents of Corvettes having issues like the reported ones w/ the Fords (Trucks)

hope this helps :w :v

You had mne confused with this one at first; I was going to move it to Other Cars and Automobiles forum, until I saw the C4 reference, so I edited the title of the post to reflect that instead of moving it. :CAC

I believe that GM uses an electrical switch connected to the brake pedal under the dash to disengage the cruise control. Ford uses a diaphram type switch mounted directly on the brake master cylinder that disengages the cruise. The problem is that the Ford switch is powered all the time even with the key off and when the diaphram ruptures it allows brake fluid to come in contact with the powered connection and shorts out thus causing the fire. Older cars in the 50 - 60 era used a similiar switch on the end of the master cylinder for a stop light switch. They were faulty then and can't understand why Ford would use such an electrical device and then keep it powered all the time. Guess the only way they can count on return business is to burn a few up. Problem is it usually takes your house/garage with it. Suggest anyone owning a Ford product under recall, park it on the street!!!
