Like most of us that cant find a NEW EGR temp swicth thats no more.

In ran into the discontinued parts problem several times and always wondered WTF...
Someone in the biz explained it to me...

Vendors with GM have contracts that gives them exclusive rights to supply/mfg/distribute various parts. After all, cars are just collections of parts made by many different companies.
Bottom line, Until that contract expires, the after-market industry cannot touch it. When patents expire, contracts expire, it becomes fair game or the contract owner sells it to somebody that wants to reproduce and supply again.
So right around the 20-25 yrs window, there is often a gap in parts availablity for this reason. Its been said that a bracket for a '63 vette is easier to find that a a/c bracket for an 88....even though the 88 has PS brackets available in catalogs. Some pieces just have not had their contract mature yet...so salvage is the parts yard for now.
