Hey a friend of mine offered his 1980 l48 black on red with about 80k miles to me for $2500.00, it ran well up untill he parked last fall. We think the battery is dead, assuming it is the battery, how is this price? Paint is fair for the age and the interior is faded and is in need of restoration. Just seats and carpets though. Dash is good.

Depends

If it's mechanically sound and only needs a battery, grab it, you're not going to find a running vette for that kind of money very often, especially one you know the history on.

RUN dont walk with your money in hand to get this vette and good luck with it !!!!!!!!!

Im calling the guy back first thing in the morning, right before I go to the bank and withdrawl the money. Im taking a tank of air for one of the tires and some starting fluid along with some jumper cables, with any luck it will be in the driveway by noon.
Thanks guys, I guess I just needed a second opinion.

Alright, I went over today and checked it over, its actually an 81' but with only 64k original miles, the paint is shot, faded from sitting out in the sun and quite a few scatches and cracks, one tire is flat from sitting, it did start but the headlights only went part of the way up but came up even with each other. seats arent bad, a couple of cracks, dash is perfect and all the guages work. Transmission shifted fine out of each gear (auto), didnt drive it but you could tell it went into reverse and didnt clunk. One top is cracked but not bad. The engine was complete with all the original covers and hoses in place. He went down from 2500.00 to 2300.00. I told him I would be back monday to get it.

Make sure to post some pics of the vette. Sounds like you may have a nice little toy to tinker with. Good luck and looking forward to hearing more about your find.
Check this link out for some troubleshooting info on the vacuum system.

CHEAP VETTES ARE THE BEST!!

You have a clean sheet of paper..... re-build it HOWEVER you feel like!! My first vette was someone else's low-ball Vette, but when I sold it I got TWICE what I paid for it... some eleven years later!!! Your posibilities are ENDLESS!!

I sold my old 1978 with-
L88 hood
350 crate w/TPI
700R4
80 seats
Carbon fiber rear monospring
H4 conversion
91 alternator w/ 0 gauge charge wire (YOU'LL NEED IT ON A HIGH DRAW IGN!!!)
255/50ZR16s.... aluminum MANTIS wheels
R134 conversion
Glass tops
Alpine / Memphis audio

By the summer you'll be 10 grand into that car. Have fun! And dont keep track of how much you spend!!

Let's see, $10k + $2.3k = $12.3k. Cheaper than any new car and will be worth at least as much if/when you sell it. A great deal! Driving a C3 is much more fun when you know you made it purr like a kitten with your own two hands!

Paid 6k for a 81 fully loaded, smoke blue tops,
silver on silver leather
47k miles
Replaced fuel pump. thats it.
Eventually I will do paint, rims, exhaust, but none are required.
So in other words. GRAB IT :D

Guys, I bought it yesterday, put a new master cylinder in it and am having trouble bleeding the brakes, buffed out the paint and it looks good, has cracks and scatches but the seats are amazing, a little dried but only worn on one bolster on the drivers side and one small crack in the passenger side, the dash is in great shape and all guages work except the fuel guage, some smog stuff is gone, such as the pump and it looks like on the nose above the head lights the panel has broke loose, does anyone know if that was glued or riveted on the 81'? The vacuum for the headlights are fine, and it needs one tire, the power windows go up but the seals/weather stips are rotted and the carpets are faded along with the backs of the seats. power locks work but are weak, maybe from sitting, if I get the brakes bled and going and get the tire do you think it would be worth a ebay "buy now" of 3700.00? The power seat even works. I appreciate your opinons and thoughts on this so thank you.
