I'm looking to buy a 68 convertible but a little worried about the frame it looks clean , no repairs, but the body gaps expand when it is on the hoist is this normal or is the frame weak?:confused

hello, i might be wrong, but i think especially in roadsters there is some flex. when i worked in the disney garage our corvette guy would make sure he rolled down the windows and popped the latches(on t-tops) beacuse the bodies moved abit

C3-frame was poorly conceived...

:eyerole Yes, -whom ever was responsible for the C3-frame should have been stripped of their Mr-goodwrench tie-tack!!:nono -Although it is boxed at least, if they had made it just another inch deeper in vertical-thickness it would have made a tremendous *40%-increase in bending-strength; -anyone making retrofit replacement frames should make that improvement, along with adding some *gussets in a few stratigic places. Even though it would have been a tad bit heavier, a stiffer frame would significantly improve handling predictability that guys try to remedy via rack&pinion-steering (the xlnt. oem/steering-gear isn't the problem, --it's the flimbsy frame)... :dance

Probably normal

I remember when I first got my car the dealer said never to open the doors when the car was on a lift. The body flex was enough to cause possible damage if the doors were opened. It sounds like yours is normal. However, it wouldn't hurt to double check to make sure you are lifting it at the right spots.
