anyone know where i can get frame repair panels? the rust has ate my frame up instead of being boxed it is a c looking at the ground. there is good metal still there. so im thinking get to good metal and then por 15 it then lap weld the box back in while keeping the frame level. does this sound like the right thing to do or am i over my head here?

If the side main rails are that far gone, I'd be more concerned about the condition of the kickup area forward of the rear wheels where it joins the end of the main rails; that area is normally much worse than the side rails get, and the frame can literally break in half there.
:eek

Not trying to rub salt into the wound, but most frames rust from the inside out and that looks like what is happening in your pics. The metal may be VERY thin where the metal looks good from the outside due to rust inside the rail. Looks like major work/new frame to me :(

A friend of mine had a similar problem and found that he needed a new frame when everything else was checked. That's some serious rust problem you've got there.

That's the problem with Vettes, they look great sitting there but those mean little rusties keep working overtime.

Good Luck!

I know its bad and i cant tell how bad the birdcage is. How much am i looking at spending on a good frame? or better yet i know if i do that i'll be opening a can of worms, so how much is the average price to do a frame off and how much time i'm looking to put into it? is it worth it? or should i sell it and look for another? thanks guys.....

Here is a FRAME on eBay, current price is $25 with 4 days left on bidding. It is up in Dallas. :)

For birdcage repair, take a look HERE for some pics on a 73 restoration. Should give an idea of the work involved.
