The front spoiler on my C4 takes a beating sometimes. I'm really careful but sometimes it's unavoidable! When entering or leaving a driveway or a gas station it's easy to be really careful and have it drag slowly as you go up or down a ramp. Tonight however, I was cruizin' along and hit a dip in the road I didn't expect, and WHAM, hit the darned front spoiler hard as I went through the dip. Oddly enough, it happened again on the same night. Hit a dip or a crack in the road at about 35 mph and scraped the thing. :ugh It's getting a little ragged looking and I'm thinking I might have to replace it soon. I'm assuming that's pretty easy to do. I've seen the parts for sale from Eckler's.

So what do people do about this? Just let it get scraped up until it has to be replaced? Is there some better way? Any advice, oh you corvette wizards out there?

Yep, just let it get scraped up. There's no way to avoid it. Mine has scraped my driveway every time I back out for 7 years. No harm.

And some folks insist on lowering their machines........Image over functionality......I don't get it.........

It looks cool though, but where I live not cool to be lowered, its like hazzard county around here.

The spoilers can take some abuse, that's for sure. A trick I've done is use a razor blade to cut off the ragged bottom edge and clean it back up. Its pretty easy - the "fringe" plastic will slice right off restoring a cleaner look.

It's relatively inexpensive, and easy to replace, basically it's a maintenance item.

Actually they are pretty durable. I lowered my 92 about an inch, so its even lower than stock. I scrape the front spoiler often. It usually only scrapes the bottom of the plastic center section. I've only broken the spoiler once in 4 yrs and that was when I came up on a piece of road sign laying in my lane and no way of avoiding it. I cringed and took the hit. Fortunately the plastic spoiler was the only damage. $50 from ecklers for the entire 3 pc part. You can just buy the center section for about $20. Only takes an hr or so to change it out. Easy job.

wow...this worried me for a few weeks, then ....., i just deal with it...every time i leave and come back thats twice for sure, then every driveway i enter..and even speed bumps in parking garages...lol

Yeah, the side sections are still pretty good and firmly attached. They're just a little scraped up. The middle section is much worse, and some of the screw holes are torn making it worse. Guess I'll have to get some jack stands or ramps or something so I can get the front end high enough to replace it. It looks easy enough if you can get under there.

.

that's my problem..no place to work....
i remember back in arkansas seeing a lot of ramps that you could drive over , kinda like a pit on the side of the driveway...or maybe make friends with the ez-lube guy...lol

Takes about 45 min to an hour to change around 45.00 on fiea bay, I look at it as an every two year maint. item.

So, what is the trick at replacing the spoilers? I spent probably 3-4 hours on mine on my 89, and had to leave one of the bolts out.

It looks like the bolts are short enough, that all the pieces have to be flush in order for you to get the nut on the screw. If they aren't flush, then the screw won't poke through for you to put a nut on.

The worst was the passenger side. I had to use a jack to lift up the fender well as it was sitting so low. One of the bolts on that side I wasn't able to get on the screw because the screw was too short.

And on the center dam piece. Do the nuts got on top or the bottom? I think the nuts go on the bottom, but I put them on top because I didn't see a way to get allen wrench to the bolts on the ends since that up center piece bracket was in the way in the corner.
