I need to buy King Pins and both Upper Inner Shafts for my 62 Corvette. MOOG parts were recommended but are not mandatory. Can anyone direct me to where I can buy these parts at the best price? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. That kit was overkill, but I was able to find what I needed. Thanks.

Hal.

Great Emails

Keep them coming Hal, good stuff. I went with a kit from Stainless Steel Brake a while back with needle bearing king pins and I was impressed with it. In the process of putting the front disc and a dual master on it with a few other things right now, should be on the road by Wed.

Check out Rock Auto.com.

Go to box 2 on the home page and select Chevrolet and 1962 from the drop down. Then select Corvette and then one of the engine options. Then you will get a selection of parts areas to look at. They have all of the Moog parts for suspension and steering in there. Moog king pin set $42.79. They also have a way to compare price with the top parts stores.

I recently replaced one of my upper inner shafts. I inquired how to do it and I was told NOT to replace them. Good advice if they don't need to be replaced, but one of mine was worn out. Anyway, it was a major undertaking because the replacement parts have about .010 interference on the odd shaped threads. Luckily, I am a moldmaker and can do some lathe machining and was able to turn the threads down so they would fit. They must of taken a large dose of smart pills when they designed the threads on that part. :duh
Good luck with you're project

All the usual Corvette vendors sell these parts. Moog is a good name. But there are others. Any major brand should do for these low tech parts. Kanter (kanter.com) has the best prices on front end suspension parts. Your FLAPS may also still carry them.

Don't replace the upper inner shaft unless you really have to. Try leaving the old shaft in place and replacing the end bushings from the new set. See if that takes up enough slop to get by.

The king pins will go a long way to taking the slop out of your front end.
