front monoleaf spring

Has anyone installed the front monoleaf spring for a C4 from VBP
I have tried installing and broken the spring retainer torqued to 30lbs could not go to 46lbs. The spring retainer pillars do not go
up to the frame as it did with the original spring. I am not getting
any replys from VBP will try them tomorrow. The frame mount pads seem to thick.

I talked with Robin at VBP and according to him the General
molds their pads to the monoleaf spring and the thickness of
the spring really does not matter except when you try to replace
with a none GM spring. After talking with VBP they are going to
redo their instruction sheet which is about 16 years old. What
needs to be done is use washers to gap the space between
the Spring retainer and the frame cage this worked great. They
will be changing the torque value also.

Needless to say had the vette out last night what a difference
in the curves nice and solid.

What were the symptoms before-hand? Mine is a bit wallowy in transition while turning, even with new (good) shocks, and the front of the car is sitting too low. Sound like a spring?

My front spring was starting to delaminate and going into corners
at posted MPH or above the car seemed to wander out with the curve. Now at posted speed or above car stays right their. I changed the rear spring it had cut marks in it almost like a hacksaw was used on it. I am taking it this Friday for a 4 - wheel
alignment. It feels much more solid in the front.

This is a do it yourself project I really enjoyed the wrenching.

One word of caution if you order thru MAD or VBP make sure
you check on the spring that the label has the correct punch
hole over your year corvette. MAD sent a 84-87 spring the
first time and I called on a saturday the correct one was at
the door Monday. A very pleasant call with MAD.

No I placed all shims involved back at the correct locations keeping the same height.
