I have an 89 with the pre-cats. I am thinking about buying the Y pipe without the pre-cats. Other than the smog check I have to deal with, are there a lot of benefits from removing the pre-cats. My car has a new engine with a "Computer freindly Cam", shaved heads, 30 thousands over block, 160 stat, 50 series flo's, open air box. Also I am thinking of getting a 52mm throttle body. Anysuggestions?? Thanks

It will be one of the biggest benefits with your combo, expect a 20hp gain when you dump the pre-cats. Have fun.

Eagle is right. I do believe they're even more strict in CA than the other states because of the high number of cars on the roads.

If you were to do that, the car should still pass the sniff test. As long as the main cat is working and the car is properly tuned, it should pass.
