Would like to know what you all have been getting for fuel economy on new 2006 C6's, and what kind of performance additions you have made ie.. exhaust, cold air intake ect.. And if you feel these modifications helped at all. Would specifically like to know about long road trips and what you found to be the sweet spot either speed or rpm wise for best fuel economy????

Thanks Norm

mileage stats

Recently ran 2450 miles averaging 70.9 mph: found that 91 octane fuel gave me 26.3 mpg while 93 octane came out to 27.5 mpg. Had I set the cruise control on 70, I believe I would have easily have attained over 28 mpg. using either fuel. Bone stock C6 and I plan to keep it that way.

Drove my '06 A6 to Ft. Stockton, TX from OK last month. Averaged 29-30 on the freeways and 27-28 on the US/State roads. Used the regular 'D' mode on the transmission.

During the BBORR event, we averaged 110.005 MPH and the fuel mileage reading was 20.2 for the 59 mile one way run with me driving. With my wife driving, her mileage was down to 18.5 indicated but she slows down more for the turns and, thus, accelerates harder out of the turns to be back up to 120-ish in the straights.

Off the race road, we were usually cruising at 75 in 6th gear and letting the auto select whatever gear it wanted when it wanted it. Can't say what the RPM was at the moment but it was probably in the 1700-1800 range.
Our car had 3600 miles when we started the trip, so it was mostly broke-in.

MPG Stats

My C6 is a 2005 model but I would imagine the mileage would be the same. I recently returned from a 6+k cross country trip were I got 29/30 mpg on the Interstate doing 70/80mph on cruise control. ( no eng. mods ) That's better than the wife gets on her VW Beetle. Not to shaby for a performance car.
Oh...BTW mine has auto-trans. and AC was on.

I would like to know how the fuel figures are being obtained. Are you who have posted here doing the math yourself, e.g. number of miles divided by number of gallons or are you using the DIC calculations?

I know for myself on a 300 mile run, crusing at mostly around 82 MPH, I obtained around 23.5 miles per gallon each way.

All stock Corvette

MPG

I have used the average mpg useing the computer and also the old fashion way and the difference is only in 10ths

Did both the math of miles driven versus gallons used and compared it to the DIC numbers - my C6 DIC is within a tenth, ditto my C5. So, I just use the DIC now.

I've also noted that as cruising RPM goes above 19-2000, the mileage starts going down.

Me tooo .... around town pretty low
but who cares///// I would have bought a geo if mpg was a concern

Around town in OKC means a red light or stop sign every section line (or about 1 mile), except 'downtown'. It's pretty open here, so I don't spend a lot of time just sitting at idle. If I had to drive it downtown everyday, I'm sure my mileage would suffer as well.

I've ordered a c-6 with 6sp i'm hoping to match my c-5 that on long runs to florida and miss. 32 mpg at a fair clip. I notice most posts are with automatic.

Mileage

2001 - C5 MN6 - 33-34 MPG on trips, average 78 MPH
2006 - C6 A6 - after 5 miles, 30 MPG on interstate with cruise at 75-85 MPH with occasional bumps to 100 to get around string of trucks. Most driving 3000-6000 ft altitude.
- 20 MPG avg in town (don't have LA traffic in Idaho)

Speedo is dead on over 5 mile timed run, DIC mileage dead on in both cars.
And even better, the gas gauge still works in the 2006.

I have verified the DIC with actual division for mileage. It is so close that it can be trusted. My Z06 got 19.4 mpg over the course of 4500 miles. It's still stock.

My question is what method do you use to calculate your gas mileage:

1. Just use the average figure the DIC gives you

2. Divide miles by how many gallons you put in at first click of pump

3. " Same as above #2 but go past first click top off and getting at lease 1 more gallon in.

which of the 3 would be most accurate as I always get 3 different figures and it is interesting that the computer figures are very close to the top off figures for miles per gallon.

Most accurate would be to delete the use of the factory fuel system, create a full tank that holds exactly 1 gallon of fuel (including fuel filters and lines),and drive on an oval track @ a given speed/throttle setting.

Out of the above 3 ways this way is not necessary.:lou
