Was going to change the fuel filter today and looked up the filter type on-line. It looks like there are supposed to be 2 filters where the stock fuel rail goes into the front and rear of carb, is this correct?

Mine has an inline Fram G3606 before the fuel pump, do you suppose when the PO put the fram in he would of taken out the original fuel filters, or should I take off the fuel inlets and check for the old rock filters. If I replace the in-line filter can I eliminate the original filters if they are there???

Thanks for the help

The filters in the front and back of the carb are the only 2, as from the factory. I like having the filters downstream from the fuel pump.
You might want to at least check to see if the filters are in the carb, and replace them at that point (since you have it apart, and they are cheap). Look in the gas tank with a flashlight, and see if there is a lot of crud floating around the bottom- maybe that's why the PO added an extra filter. Even if that's not the case, the only reason to replace it would be to make it look "correct".

P.S.- Where in MI are you located?

Rich,

I had everything from the doors back out this winter (cleaned and sealed tank), and now I am getting some chugging so I am going to replace all the filters. I also know I need to get the Carb rebuilt, but would like to get running decent while I track down a source. My rubber lines down by the fuel pump were also leaking when I was messing with them so I will repalce them as well, but if the 2 filters are still in the carb would you recommend deleting them when I check if they are there?, or does everyone leave them in as well when they put a filter before the pump?

I am in Royal Oak, if you come down for cruising on Woodward send an email. I live about 20 feet from Woodward near 13 1/2 Mile

I would tend to leave them in place, myself. I had Holley's Custom shop rebuild my carb a few years ago, and was quite pleased. I don't know if I'll be going to Woodward yet, if I do I'll give you a shout.
