Fuel Gage Question...

Folks,

How come I am paying around half tank of fuel when the gage is showing only 1/4 empty??? I am guessing the gage shows more fuel than really is in the tank. Is this a correct assumption?

About the way my 92 reads - it will hold near full for a long time before starting to come down. 3/4 full requires more like 8 gallons to fill up (vice 5). 1/2 full requires 12-13 gallons (vice 10). As my gauge gets closer to 1/4 of a tank, the amount of gas needs more closely matches the gauge - and, of course, the gauge goes down a lot faster then. It's been doing that for 14 years.
