ok I have a fuel gauge sender thats not working due to bad wires leading to it ,now can i just replace the little round sender or do i have to buy the whole part that its welded ,the fuel pump cage?

A new part will cost over $515. Purchase a new gasket and 9 O rings to seal the tank, then pull the sender out. Let it air dry completely and move the sneder away from the fuel tank. Solder new wires Replace the fuel pump with a '85 model year pump and replace the fuel strainer as well. double check the ground wire and test the sender by connecting the plug (But NOT the pump). You can see the fuel gage from the back of the car. If you have a ohm meter you can test for ~3 or less ohms empty, and ~90 ohms full. Seal the gas tank back up (Do NOT use goop or sealant ) There is NO such thing as Fuel PROOF silicone. Good luck
