Help! Fuel In OIL

need help!!!
my 96 started making grinding noises one day and wouldn't start, i changed the starter and checked the flywheel no damage to FW,
when i checked the oil it smelt like gas, so i drained it and it was pretty thin and had been diluted with gas. i got back 2 gallons and 1 qt of fluid.
changed filter and put cheep oil in and started engine ran for 1 min and checked oil no smell, ran the car for 15 min and parked it, checked a day later still no smell of gas.
i need to know what is going on before i put the Royal Purple back in, the car has 111000 plus miles and runs great.
any hep would be greatly appreciated
 
I would guess you just got some gas past the rings when you were trying to start it and it wouldn't,or am I reading it wrong..did the car crank and not start when you heard the noise?Really not to many ways for gas to get into the oil other than past the rings;shrug
 
I tried several time to start it, at first it was the battery, and wouldnt turn over, put the charger on it and it made a grinding noise.battery tested bad 5 years old and needed to be replaced.
then i replaced the starter. found out some intresting info on starters during the process

if the rings leaked wouldnt it burn oil and smoke?? the car does'nt smoke at all

No, the gas from the injectors above is so thin it runs past the ring openings, oil being heavier can't and there really so little oil surrounding the pistons and rings, It's more of a film, that there's very little chance of it entering the combustion chamber. But It's really odd that you got four quarts worth of gas in the old oil. No matter how many times you tried to start the car, that's a lot of raw gas. Hope it is just that, but I'd want to make sure the injerctors aren't leaking either once the key is turned on or off. Just seems like a lot of gas in the old oil.
 
You have fuel leaking past the rings somehow, either an injector(s) are bad or like with the quad cards leaking past from a problem they all had, and when they tried to start, no fuel in bowls because the had drained into the engine, into the oil. Fuel pump running when the key is off? Have you done any other work lately to cause a problem?

i have noticed sense the starter replacement it takes longer to start, befor it just started on the first try, and now i have to turn it over about 2 to 3 times, acts like no fuel in the system..
if you could explain what to look for it would help alot and thanks for the info
 
I think it was a typo.... carBs.

I would check for leaking injector(s) with a fuel pressure gauge and the procedure in the manual. The fuel rail should maintain pressure for a specified time, after the engine is stopped. The increased crank time may indicate pressure being lost in the injector system, which must be re-established before the engine will fire.

Hopefully it has no bearing damage from all that thinned oil.

I agree, you need to find out what the injectors are doing before you run the car very much more or for long.
 
I wish to than every one, the problem is fixed.
it was the fuel pressure regulator, the first time i checked it no gas was in it must of leaked out but later i checked and i guess the seal leaked because it was full of fuel on the vacuum side, car is running great now
