Does anybody know what's in the GM fuel injector cleaner?
The dealer wants $18-19 buck for it. The stuff in Wal mart is
like 2-3 bucks or whatever. Is the GM stuff better?
How often do I need to use this stuff?

--I am just trying to do good maintenance on the car, I don't ever want to replace the
injectors.

Are you asking for the right stuff? Paul (and others I've talked to) recommends GM's "Top Engine Cleaner" which is maybe $7 a can. You put this stuff through the intake rather than in the gas tank. BG's 44K is also great, but $20 a can retail and real hard to find.

Best 'just injector' cleaner I've used is VW's OEM stuff. $3 a bottle at any VW dealer and it's a 3000-mile in-the-tank cleaner. Works...

I have tried them all....best of the bunch for me is the Lucas brand injector cleaner. 3 ounces per tankful...bottle does 100 gallons for 9.00... car runs so smooth now I have to roll the window down to hear it running. I was completely amazed at how well their products work. I highly recommend it...

Is that the "Lucas Top Engine and Fuel Injector Cleaner" that feels like a 5-wt oil and is off-beige in color? I found some of that in our local AutoZone yesterday for $4/small bottle so I picked some up.

Rich....that is the stuff...I guess I got the big bottle...

I kept the bottle in the car and every time I added fuel I would drop the appropriate amount in. After the forth tankful I started to notice a difference. It started better, ran better , had more power and smoothed out an otherwise rough idle. It's funny...the car will suffer degradation in such minute amounts you never notice it till one day you realize...it just does not run or sound right. Then you tune it up or clean it out and it all comes back. The Lucas injector cleaner is going to be a once a month choice for me.

Excellent. Where did you order the big bottle from? Our local place just had the 'one bottle treats 25 gallons' size. Bought two and I'm splitting them between three cars since all have less than 25g tanks...

I still like the VW stuff, but lost my 'in' at the dealership so I don't go back there any longer.
