Is replacing fuel injectors on L98 a job that requires any special tools,is this a really hard job to take on?Thanks for any advice.

It requires a set of Torx bits and a torque wrench. That's the only specials I can think of.
Is it a hard job? Maybe...maybe not. It depends on the level of your DIY service skills and whether or not you have the Factory Service Manual.

HIB HALVERSON & DARK SHARK thank you both for your replies,need all the help I can get.Have tested fuel injectors for resistance and 5 of them were showing between 5-9 OHMNS,would this mean they could be part of my hot starting problems?Thanks again folks,Brian

Those readings are too low. I recall the 86 I use to own called for 15 ohms, or so. I'm not sure what year your Vette is but you can probably do a Google Search to find out what your injectors should read.
Changing them isn't all that difficult; just time to remove the parts to access them.
You're looking at removing the plenum, runners, fuel lines (at the front of the engine) and fuel rails. Of course, there are a few other miscellaneous things like plug wires, etc. that'll be in the way.
Use a little oil on the new "O" rings to make their installation easier and be sure NOT to leave one of the old "O" rings stuck in the intake or fuel rail: BTDT. You'll need a new gasket set for the plenum and runners.

Are they light gray on silver?
If so, they are the Multecs and well known for their unusual internal design that makes them sensitive for the additives in todays fuel.
Another way of killing injectors is usage of additives you can buy at gas stations to "clean" injectors.
What they do is help cleaning the fuel system, but where do these deposits end up?
Right, in your injectors, where they get clogged up.
Only way is to clean your fuel system with the injectors removed, wich might not be a bad idea when you change injectors.
Otherwise you have the goo in the new ones after a while.
Do the filter as well, if you want to do it right.
Don´t know on a ´89, but on my ´91 it´s under the pass. side floor.
Ask a mechanic to do it, takes 15-30 minutes.

I forgot to mention, but a few of the bolts may be tough to remove after so many years. Just make sure the bit you use is the correct fit for the bolts - I forgot the size though.
As you re-install everything, be sure to apply Anti-Seize on all the bolt threads that screw into aluminum. This'll prevent future seizeing problem.
Be careful when you install the plenum to runner gaskets. The set I bought for my 86 were side specific. Got 'em at NAPA. Not sure about your year or the gaskets you'll be using, but just be sure to match up the gaskets to the side you intend to install it on. Check the fitment and hole alignments.
Start all the bolts by hand before your begin torqueing them down. I always cross tighten to pull the part up evenly; same principle as when bolting down cylinder heads, etc.
Right now I can't think of anything else about the job you're going to do, but if I come up with anything else I'll post it.

I used it as well. Don´t know for sure if that killed my injectors, but you can read enough about it on forums that it does more harm then well.
I think the fuel in the States is of less good quality or it´s the lower octane that does it.
Here in Sweden we only have 95 and 98 at the pump stations. In Germany you can find 91 and in some cases 87(lowest) and in the Netherlands there also is 93 octane.
Don´t know what you have in Great Britain, but generally we don´t need this injector cleaner here. I don´t here much about problems with injectors here in Sweden.
One tip I´ve heard is this: Instead of injector cleaner, pour in a few (max 5% of tank capacity) liters of DIESEL OIL. this would have the same or better effect.
This person did it on his Jeep Cherokee 4.0 L and got a smoother running engine.
Just a thought...

Hi Jake,Many thanks for the advice I forgot I would need new gaskets for the job i'm glad you mentioned it before I ordered from your side of the pond(I always order direct from the states as prices here are crazy,cheapest set of 8 injectors i've found locally cost £499 or $800 usd)can't wait to get everything working as it should.

There are a few things that are not readily clear on your website:
I assume that the price is for a set of injectors. Is this correct?
When I order are you sending me a set of injectors, do I need to send you mine first, or is this just an outright price?
Do they come with new o-rings or do I need to purchase them separately?
For my stock 88, L98, are 19lb injectors the stock replacement units?
Will these units hold up using E10 gaspline?

I just had my 89's injectors replaced using injectors I got from Jon at FIC.
He included all the gaskets and stuff needed, and then some. Check with him, he also gives advice on how to do the job.

19 lb is the stock replacement ??? My 1988 had 22 lb.

TonyLong, Did you go with the IIs or IIIs? You link is to the II's. Looks like Jon has modified the IIIs to be the same length as the stock injectors. I was impressed with the spray pattern of the IIIs, which matched very close to the stock. Notice any improvements?

I just went with the the Bosch III's which are 22LB.
Use vaseline to coat the o rings..
The info I got was the alcohol in the Cleaner and in the new fuel eats the coating around the coils. the coils are inside and get washed with gas. The alchol eats the coating and the coil shorts out.
Also check and consider replacing any other parts that would require removing the plenum again.
There are several ways to remove the fuel rails. I removed the passenger side tubes.
There is a way to do it without removing any of them , but you will need to split the fuel rail.

I got the III's the link is all I could find. Yeah they're the same length, cars runs now - that's better by definition. Mileage is now in the 20's, used to be in the mid-teens. I didn't want rebuilts, FIC had new ones.
