I have developed a fuel leak. I traced the leak to a spot in the line that has been replaced. They used steal line with two compression fittings on both ends. I have a leak in one of the fittings so i was going to replace the small section with steel line with the couplings on both ends. The system is pressurized so can i bleed the pressure off at the fuel rails or somewhere else. Once i get the new line in place the fuel system will have been exposed to air. How do i purge the system. Can i just bleed the air off the same way as the fuel. I am assuming the fuel pump comes on when the key is turned, so if someone turns the key and i can bleed the air off until fuel spits out all over.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Yes, you can bleed the pressure off at the Schrader valve on the fuel rail, but there really isn't going to be problem in regards pressure, as much as when you remove the line and it siphons fuel from the tank. That is, assuming the repair is in the line under the car. You should pinch the line from the tank, at the fill location (under the rubber boot) to prevent siphoning.

You shouldn't have to bleed off any air after the repair either. One doesn't have to bleed the air when one changes a fuel filter, does one? ;)
